Found a pair of Model III's and what struck me right off the bat was that they came with 1" dome Peerless tweeters. I thought at first that they were rebranded Polk speakers. Everything works on them including the wierd Q switch but the woofers need to be refoamed so I will probably part them out. Anybody ever hear of these or own a pair? Apparently Cizek manufactured highend speaker up until the early 90s. I believe this set was from 1978-80. I thought myself pretty familiar with New England made speakers but these were a total surprise to me

Upon futher research, the tweeter's are Thiel's??? I honestly wondered since they appear to be slightly larger then the Peerless tweeters that were in the Polk's of the same vintage (Model 10A's that I had). Could someone enlighten me as to the difference between the Peerless and Thiel type tweeters?

I honestly have no interest in attempting to refoam these speakers or any woofers or I would have done the Infinity 12" ones I had. I ended up just tossing them into the dumpster. The Cizek's are for someone who knows what they are doing. Apparently these woofers are difficult to work on from what I read, they look like a clusterfuk of crap slapped together. This cat Cizek used to work for Altec Lansing and is considered a guru with golden ears. He literally designed his line of speakers totally by ear, he is/was blind

From what I have read, Cizek speakers are reknowned for incredibly flat response, they probably would make a heck of a set of studio monitors

Why don,t you Re-foam them and see what they sound Like

Asking around just seems to poin to them as being Peerless tweeters, not sure why another gentleman on another forum thsyas they are Thiel's. I tried to find images of vintage Thiel's and nothing came up looking like these that I took out of the Cizek's. They do look slightly larger then the Polk versions I have had

Those look like the current "redux" versions of the SL2000's that Polk outfitted with the 2B upwards.

I bought a couple awhile back for the 2B's I used to have.. they were pretty good.

Hey Jer!

Nope, they look different, mine are gold backs, these are 1978-80 originals used in the pair. Left side of image under the foam piece is a sticker with a part number or serial number. I will have to pull them out and note the numbers here

and no, I did not lay the tweeter on the dome LMAO, holding it in my hand for the image

I said "look like", Ron. :toothy10: But also look at the first sentence in the listing... "Great replacement for Peerless, Polk Audio, ADS, M&K, DLK, Cizek, Jennings Research and many more. " Like I said, they were excellent replacements for the Polks... probably yours too if you need them.

Lee, I wish I had not tossed them either... actually two pairs from two sets of SM-120s but the inside cage diameter was different for both. Still have a set sitting in the garage waiting for correct replacements. I did all the cab bracing work already. Hell, I even built another set of cabs for them last year out of brazilian cherry. They weigh over 100lbs with nothing in them LMAO

That's why I hesitated even looking into getting them refoamed as I was concerned I would get incorrect ones and then there is the deal where I would royally screwup the voice coils. I had this great plan to use ultrathin cardboard rolled up to hold them in place since the cardboard will open up to a perfect fit. Then I hear about some CD to do it and using a battery also to align. Too much aggravation

I have quite a few speakers of various types laying around that I wish I could trade/sell.... Polycells, EMIT's, Advent fried eggs and woofs (maybe a mid can out of a Maestro series still(, Infinity mids, Polk 10A crossovers etc...

I need a PL 400 faceplate and meters, anybody want to do some swappin'?

Chris says 10 watts at 32 hz will keep them centered, and use slow set glue.

We can do that. Got a Heil air motioin transformer??
No Sir, just what I mentioned. I have Sunn 10" monitor speakers also and some other stuff probably kicking around like a Sansui wooden cabinet. I had grand illusions to do the stuff that you guys do but it seems there is never time or inclination with everything else I have going. There is always something of bigger priority or a lack of money at the time to actually do something when an opportunity arises. I am thinking of having someone refoam these Cisek woofers if someone wants to tackle them. I would just ruin them out of lack of patience, as Clint Eastwood says "A Man has got to know His limitations" :toothy10:

Right now my pet project is refinishing an old Telecaster I got at a tagsale, took a week just to sand the body and I am still not done :toothy10:
