Mostly window and the frame had two round chambers like MasterCard?

TDK MA-R maybe.

UX Pro had CERAMIC guides in the version everyone likes.

Nice Nando. Small amount of change sitting there.

I quit buying metals a long time ago. I asked myself why. When there are some very good Type IIs out there. Here is a very good II.

Thanks Larry. I bought a smal lot of premium metal tapes recently from Innovative Audio. I didn't realize how much these TDK MA-R tapes fetch on the internet, but I got a few for much less than current market prices, like about $5 - $7 each from IA.

Metal sounds better than chrome? Don't know if you can make that as a general statement, but I'll bet the noise floor is much lower with metal. I'd bet the saturation level is higher with metal...I'd say the best chrome tapes are better than the worst metals, but.....

I agree....cost to benefit, I'd say chrome is the way to go for general recording and playback, but for your absolute best stuff, I'd say metal all the way. I am a recent convert too. Back in the days before CD, I used Chrome over Metal. Couldn't see paying the difference in price for a slight advantage in sound. Maxell XL-II was my fav.

I do have metals. I use no N/R what so ever and I have never saturated a tape I pick out. The Phoenix blue labels will record at +6 all day long.If I hear noise on a tape I am looking for the culprit trust me. It is either the deck or the source. CDP or TT or what ever the case. If I hear any noise in my system that is a cause for concern. I have tested a lot of tapes. I pick and chose what I use.
