I just found this. http://www.northcreekmusic.com/Bypassing.html

I think caps can influence the sound so much. If you notice in my parts lists. That is my biggest costs. There are other components that can influence your sounds. If you have a good base to work from then you go for the final sound. I hate resistors. To me they create a situation for a chance for noise. I am still reading the Valeb thread. 90% of what is discussed is caps.

Now different caps. I like Black Gates a great deal. The Russians PIO and those are pretty good for the price. For the money Solens are good. If you can do a group buy on any BG I'll be happy to get some with you. Try the bypassing. If you have pots that is another step up. I forget what I have in the tube pre. The resistors were laser cut to tolerance. I do like Mundorfs. The BGs take a long to burn in.

Those companies must be raising the price every time they sell a BG cap. If they get that for them, supply and demand principles are working.

Seeing what are considered good caps today, the Nichicon KZ/FG and the Elna Silmic II, the BGs seem to be preferred but that is some premium.

To me the BG's sound better. Clearer more precise, but soon the cost/benefit ratio kicks in. I can't imagine that the folks who own the rights to the BG patent haven't made a deal with a manufacturer yet. It's surprising someone hasn't reverse engineerred them yet. Perhaps they are seeing what the real market value is..

Lee That is why I save and build. That way it may not be cost effective; but I get a sound I like and my venture is over. It will be the last I buy. Then it is over and done for. You have built what you like. You don't have that nagging thought in your head. It could have sounded better. At what point does audio become cost effective? Is it ever? This is for me. Not a customer unless they will pay.

What about the other. There was a place that wasn't audio that had some. In my searches I find them here and there. You want me to keep looking. I have no bookmarks on this puter.
