Can anyone repair Alps pushbutton switches?

Trying to repair a Pioneer A60 amp, the source selector switch for phono won't latch... at an impasse! Also noticed when I powered it up and was hitting the selector the MM or MC light would light up no matter what input I selected.. seems wrong to me... :la:

Have you blown the amp out (canned 'air' duster) and is there an opening to do that and then use Deoxit, CRC or other suitable electronics spray?

Repeat if you need to and wait the recommended time period before replacing and operating.

You might also be able to get the switch(es) apart and inspect them...you may be able to repair them.

I have repaired some in the past, but that requires that the spring and the dog still be attached. On the switch that won't latch, is the spring and dog still a part of the switch? IIRC, some were external and some internal.

You got lucky I was passing through and it caught my eye - I'm off to my dad's house again today (till 10 pm last night) to continue prepping it for eventual sale.

First try lubing/ cleaning the motion transfer bar interconnecting the phono. tuner and cd/aux buttons.

Pioneer treats it as one assembly, aad-559, and it is unique to the a-60.

The mm / mc lamps DO that (on purpose) - the only way they are depowered is when all three function knobs are OUT (none latched, fiddling can get you there). If they were both out, the phono. tuner or cd/aux lamps could NOT light. Now if MM and MC are BOTH on, that means the mm/mc switch is of a high enough resistance to not have the desired shorting function.

I do not know what mouser part number could even sub in. Haven't worked on these much. And until dad's estate is settled and my own life settled down again, I won't be... basically I am on hiatus.

I needed to replace a pushbutton power switch on an APT Holman preamp. Checked the local shop's "used parts bins" and online but found non of the same configuration and 10A power rating until I went to this site:

They had a 10A and nearly physically identical to the original, only needing a slight enlargement of the mounting holes. I noticed their selection was far greater for those with low power capacity for signal switching so maybe you'll get lucky. Although I didn't really need them, they had some pushbutton switches which fit a Hafler DH110 source selector so I got some of those too just to meet the minimum order requirement.

Well, on hiatus or not, appreciate your input. It's nice to know switch resistance could be enough to cause the shorting function to be affected.



Dave, the first thing would be to de-oxit the switches then go from there....

Everything external on the switch is still attached. Whatever is wrong is internal to the switch. I'm too afraid to take it apart.... :sad7: Would rather defer to someone that would have some experience with something like it. I haven't been able to find another switch like it that has ten pins. The one that is bad is the one with ten pins closest to the six pin switch, which is the MM/MC switch..

Our resident switch expert is the Navo....he seems to have patience that can only be described as extreme. When it comes to VERY small springs and actuators I try not to put myself in a position where I have to deal with them, unless its on a project I'm already involved in...

I got the Pioneer A-60 up and going. Pulled the source select switches and the tape monitor switches, switched out one of the tape monitor switches with the phono switch and now I can select everything I need to.. Don't really care about the extra tape monitor one...I use the phono a lot more. :compress:

Cleaned and powered it up with DBT, everything was fine... now it is powering my Thiels! Music!!! Sounds pretty good... maybe a recap is in order, after I get my WOPL fix!
