- Broken beyond repair but highly affable
Initially five dates were cancelled after guitarist and Benatar's husband Neil Giraldo had to have emergency eye surgery, which is said to have saved his vision. Now six more performances which had been scheduled to happen into September and mostly at fairs have also been scrubbed.
While they haven't been announced on the benatargiraldo.com site yet clicking on the ticket information links you should be able to tell if your date is affected.
I was looking forward to seeing the August 28th show at the Western Idaho Fair as it would have been the first time I've ever seen them in concert.
Pat Benatar got her stage name from her first marriage, which ended in 1979. She was introduced to Giraldo at about that time after being signed to Chrysalis Records in 1978. Giraldo was a noted up and coming guitarist who had just worked with Rick Derringer. Benatar's 1979 debut album was highly successful in no small part from his driving guitar sound. He would become her producer and they married in 1982. By 1984, she was pregnant with her first child, evident in the We Belong video.
They have produced albums quite regularly since 1979, the last one being released in 2014. This is the 35th anniversary of their musical collaborations and first Pat Benatar album and according to Pat they were having a great time until Neil complained about headaches and other serious problems and surgery was performed.
I think we all wish this phenomenal musical force of a couple the best of recovery.
