I'm sitting here listening to Natalie Merchants voice. She puts a speaker through a tough time to reproduce it.

What artist do you think is the hardest to reproduce. Voice or whatever. Not Lee and the volume knob. LOL

Larry

Ps You know I'm just cranking this. Some music you don't crank. You listen to all the nuances.

Natalie Merchant's 'Tigerlily' is one of my favs :D , also Patricia Barber's 'Companion' with her Hammond B-3, an acid test for your upper mids and highs not to breakup. and the contact sounds of the keyboard should be very apparent. the percussion on 'Black Magic Woman' should be loud and clear on all the many ones playing.

Linda Rondstandt's voice can be a bitch to sound right on anything other than a 'stat speaker when she gets all the range in there. I don't have any of her stuff on CD, just Lp, so the cart has to be spot on too.

Early Elton John recordings are a good test :thumbright:

Natalie has a interesting Pitch and tone to her Voice,,,if you listen her Stevee Nicks or Annie Lennox they all seem to have a strong on/off key sound,,not sweet and on Pitch like Cass Elliott or karen Carpenter

Karen had a lower working range than either of them. The one woman I know of with a lower one would be I believe Ruth? Pointer.

Elizabeth of Cocteau Twins and Souxie(sp, of THe Banshees) have incredibly interesting voices. Melanie Safka (Candles In The Rain) is another neat voice. Cass Elliot was an absolute dream and I'd love that voice to sing me to sleep but alas...

Linda Ronstadt does it all and she can.

Enya came from the hugely popular Celtic group Clannad but other than beautifully glasslike harmonies I've never heard her share her voice with anybody but family. She only sounds good with herself which I'm sure is not true but ???

Juice Newton. That's all you have to say.

I quit listening to Natalie after she went solo. To me it wasn't the same. I do also have their unplugged CD. I listen to it a lot.

I'll second Siouxsie and the Banshees, especially when she recorded 'Through the Looking Glass', 'Tinderbox' and "Peepshow', also when she and Budgie broke away and did 'The Creatures' some of her best vocal work.

Don't forget k. d. lang :thumbright: especially her early stuff.

For the dudes, Micheal Buble' is hard to top from the newer guys, vintage Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant and of course Freddie Mercury.
