The other two members, who are related, said they tried to hold back the news for two years but that accusations of Jeff Cook (guitarist and iconic fiddler) was performing drunk or stoned just could not be allowed to sully his reputation.

Alabama has been one of my favorite bands in ANY genre for more than 35 years. They rose to country superstardom in the early 1980s after forming the band in the late 1960s and building up a reputation as a great bar in bars and small venues and they were signed to RCA Records where they were first seen by fans on country shows like Hee Haw and skyrocketed with hit after hit. They also redefined country music in the 80s with other artists like Janie Fricke, Rosanne Cash, Lee Greenwood, Sylvia, Ronnie Milsap, Aaron Tippin, George Strait and Alan Jackson.

This is sad for more than just Alabama fans.
