I would use Larry's Akai M8 as an example, if you are willing to make an offer, Lee. There are so many factors to consider, but if it's in similar physical and operating condition, use Larry's as a guide.

This has separate cabinets and the tape deck itself is in a carrying case.

Like Larry said, these usually have the transport on top and two mono tube amps on the bottom with "doors" on the side to open for the speakers.

If the one you are looking at has external cabs are the made by Akai? I could not see them being worth anything as added value really unless you were an Akai collector (unless they are JBL's, Tannoy's, Altec.....)

Working unit in nice condition usually sell for $50-100. I've never paid over $50 for one. I had 4 set of mono blocks but sold two recently to fund two other families Christmas'.

What are they asking for it?

Two metal doors similar to the X-1800SD I have, on the sides?

And YES! In working order it's worth it!

Just because the one I had was free and came from a store basement?!?

I guess that was my point. Knowing you love the 500 watt range I just thought you may be pleasantly surprise what a cool little SE amp can do.

I'll keep my mouth shut from now on ;)

And then you have your little SET's....Single Ended Triode which gets some folks panties very damp and nice and warm in their 'happy place' , usually only 2 or 3 watts max output.
