I finally got around to hooking up the 'Love Lounge' system, I've been happy diggin' the AKG cans with the Sanyo amp while playing on the 'puter, but I hooked up the Celestions and the AR 4x's to the SAE combo and crap girls it's a huge hit!! I bought the set up in 1989 or so, forgot how nice it was in the synergy department WOOF!!!

It took about 2 hours for the SAE's to warm up and get that 'sound', Jesus I pray for the soul who enters the lounge next  , and I only have the Luxman cassette deck hooked up...maybe the Thorens needs to move in  , or the Onix CDP!! I have the Celestions and the AR's stacked old school, what a great sound, the SAE combo is tits boys and girls, I'm thinking about new IC's now but that has to wit till debts to several of ya's are paid :santa: , that's another thread

Lee, I'm playing that tape Jani loved so much, gotta make ya's a copy :reindeer:

My old SAE power amp needs some help but I still have it and my old pre that still sees use. I moved on to a pair of GAS Sons of Ampzilla from the SAE, I still love James B's sound. Being a big Deadhead it goes hand in hand, Bobby Weir and Phil Lesh both used GAS amps during the Wall of Sound years, so they work well with the sound i am looking for.

http://dozin.com/godzilla/amp.htm

GODZILLA FEATURES PURE CLASS A OPERATION- ACKNOWLEDGED BY MOST AUDIO COGNOSCENTI AS SYNONYMOUS WITH THE ULTIMATE IN AUDIO AMPLIFICATION. CLASS A CIRCUITRY MEANS THAT OUTPUT TRANSISTORS WILL ALWAYS BE OPERATING AT A CONSTANT AVERAGE AMOUNT OF CURRENT. EVEN THOUGH THERE MAY BE NO SIGNAL AT THE AMPLIFIER'S INPUT. SINCE THE OUTPUT TRANSISTORS DO NOT VARY THEIR AMOUNTS OF CURRENT. CROSSOVER NOTCH DISTORTION IS COMPLETELY ELIMINATED, AND REMAINING DISTORTION CONSISTS OF IMPERCEPTIBLE LEVELS OF INOFFENSIVE LOWER-ORDER HARMONICS. AN IDLE CURRENT OF NINE AMPS ENABLES GODZILLA TO OPERATE IN THE PURE CLASS A MODE NOT ONLY INTO EIGHT OHMS, BUT FOUR AS WELL. TO FURTHER INSURE AGAINST SIGNAL DETERIORATION, GODZILLA EMPLOYS FULLY-COMPLEMENTARY SYMMETRY WHICH RESULTS IN COMPLETE CANCELLATION OF EVEN-ORDER HARMONIC DISTORTION PRODUCTS.

THERE IS MORE TO GODZILLA'S GREATNESS. ITS POWER AND STABILITY, FOR EXAMPLE, ARE AWESOME. GODZILLA IS SO COMPLETELY IMMUNE TO SPEAKER LOADING EFFECTS THAT GAS COMPANY ENGINEERS HAVE SUCCESSFULLY USED IT AS AN ARC WELDER WITH NO ILL EFFECTS. SUCH DRAMATIC CAPABILITIES SUPPORT OUR CONFIDENCE IN GODZILLA'S LOW-IMPEDANCE RATINGS. THE CLASS-A GODZILLA BELIEVERS 400 WATTS PER CHANNEL OF POWER OUTPUT INTO A ONE-OHM LOAD. AND, IF A CLASS A GODZILLA DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH POWER FOR YOUR APPLICATIONS, IT IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN A CLASS AB VERSION WITH THE ABILITY TO DELIVER 1000 WATTS PER CHANNEL INTO A TWO OHM LOAD.

BUT POWER OUTPUT ISN'T THE WHOLE STORY EITHER, GODZILLA HAS A VOLTAGE SLEW RATE OF 600 VOLTS PER MICROSECOND - AN UNPRECEDENTED FIGURE IN AN AUDIO AMPLIFIER. THIS ASTONISHING SLEW RATE IS EVEN MORE MIND-BOGGELING WHEN VIEWED TOGETHER WITH GODZILLA'S BANDWIDTH OF 350KHz. FRANKLY, THERE IS NO MUSICAL SIGNAL - HOWEVER COMPLEX OR WIDEBAND, HOWEVER LOUD OR TRANSIENT - THAT CAN CAUSE GODZILLA TO SLEW. GODZILLA IS THE FASTEST HIGH POWER AMP ON MOTHER EARTH.

Bobby started using his Godzilla amp in 1978.
Power output: 400w with 8 speakers
750w with 4 speakers
1200w with 2 speakers

Phil started using his Godzilla amps in 1980. His amps were modified for 2500W of power mono. That's why you could feel the PUNCH on the 50 yard line : )
Phil started off using 8 Amps at once but slimmed down
to two by the 90's.

You have to love an amp you can listen to by night and weld with by day. lol

Pretty impressive.

Larry

PS I try to keep the amp designs in my head. I have read them many times. Just can't keep them there. LOL

Hehe, James B is da Man, snappy dresser as well, worked with Saul Marantz back in the day.

My little A202 is only 100wpc but, drove the Martin Logan's hard, fistfulls of current and probably a slew rate to match, the P102 pre has a magic too, very underrated, way ahead of it's time, computer direct-line circuitry, dual pre-outs hehe! It's not an APT Holman but, it's phono preamp is unreal, I've been listening to some tapes made with it an my 'still gotta find SAE C102 cassette deck' and the AQ404 cartridge on the Thorens/SME (another thread) and Yeah Baby Nice!!! timbre, focus, Boom, Bam, Thank You Ma'am!!
Anyhoo, the 'Love lounge' is set up...me 'appy :sex:

Rex, whomever bought that Mark SAE pre should be a happy guy!! Wish I'd had the moohla for it :angryfire:

Now I'll add the Godzilla to the very short list of reallt truly no-lie class A amps.
The Levinson ML2 was 25 watts into 8 ohms, 50 into 4, 100 into 2, 200 into 1, and 400 into 0.5 ohm loads.
