While perusing the local HMV I happened across a DVD I had never seen before. On The Edge is a live show recorded from the Razors Edge tour. This particular show is in 1990, and is clearly not long after the release of the Razor. I picked it up mainly becuase there are a few songs on it, played live, that arent on many of their other DVD's. Sin City, Who Made Who, and The Razors Edge, which are contained on the double CD set ACDC Live, but not included on their Live At Donnington VHS/DVD.
About the DVD itself... Poor image quality, seems like it was a straight tape to DVD transfer. Poor audio quality as well, with what seems to be hifi fading in and out. Brians voice nearly buries all the instruments, drums are weak, and guitars are muddy and blend together. Other than in the lead segments, it would be hard to determine which guitar is which. While its not completely muddied and definitely still listen/watchable, ive definitely grown accustomed to the clarity and separation of the more "produced" DVDs. This cant be compared to River Plate, or the remastered Live At Donnington.
The show itself... A must have for big ACDC fans. Angus sports a green school boy uniform. Brian seems to have a lot delay added to his mic. His voice still has that raspy touch from the 80's. Several guitar and vocal muck ups, make this a more raw and entertaining show. Its an interesting view on ACDC coming out of the hole on the Razor tour.
For the bigger fans of the band no doubt.
Ben.
