A James B. SST Preamp transformer!! Woof!!

Never heard of it. 2.9kva for a pre amp is nutso...
 
I wonder how quiet it is compared to our WOPL's

How so brother? Overkill? James seemed pretty proud of it, I found some articles he did with updates to the GAS Theadra preamp which was the TOTL over the Theobe, he never stopped upgrading. Kinda like ya'll do here at Phoenix.

Ya think it would work in a Phase Linear preamp?
 
Depends on the secondary voltages. 2.9kva is about twice the size of a PL 400 tranny..

Not 2.9KVA, the wire lead outs shown would not support those power levels. Something lost in translation there...
 
leads arent fat enough, and it doesn't look physically big enough to contain enough iron for that kind of power rating either.


You really don't need special magic for a preamp transformer. They run class A, so the power demands are stable. It doesn't need a huge reserve of power capacity to deal with demands like an AB or B class power amplifier would.
