so yesterday i picked up this hitachi turntable that more or less didnt exist. there is little to no info about it on the web. i searched all types of fourms and sites and found one one refrence to it on all of cyberspace, this is truly a rare and obscure table. its a large, heavy, and very very well made hitachi that rivals most high end sansui and pioneers from the period, (late 1960s, i guess) i dont think the headshell is original, but the rest of it is. can anyone shed some light on this truly forgotton turntable of the past??

I'd say that is IS the original shell. My hunch says somewhere between 1971-73, simply from the style.

Have you tried Vinylengine.com or The Vintage Knob?

is your Google search link.

If that does have the original cartridge/needle setup just look down and I think you'll find it.

That's a great looking phonograph and it looks like the Moody Bluses? are in good hands!

Yes, there were some big, squared no-nonsense shells back then.

One of the AK links mentions a Pioneer headsehll and if you've seen a PL-112 or 120 they don't look like Katy Perry but they work.

By the way, Gis and tourists bought and inported many things to America. I've seen a National mini-console meant to be Japan only...some military exchange models aren't always US models but they are US voltage capable.

Then there is Canada...

Or the unmovable fact that Google isn't omnipotent.

Try some of the others qnd those that search other like Dogpile.

yeah i already thought about that. its from japan but it had to be bought someware on this side of the pond cause its 120v only. and its not a vietnam era GI transplant cause there is no little diamoned shaped "E-P" logo on it. i was thinking possibly canada myself cause there are ALOT of snowbirds from canada that really like west palm beach for whatever reason -i see licence plates from quebec almost on a daily basis year round, and i find canadian marketed versions of stuff in thrifts all the time., like my pioneer sx-720, the canada version of the sx-3600, and my marantz cd player has canadian badges on it too.

I'm gonna say it's not the original headshell but, it's from the same era, I had a couple like that, my current one on the SME arm is alot like that one but slimmer, not as bulky, that's a great little rig, a piece of history, take care of it, use it, enjoy :D
