What is the difference between the 400 vu meters vs the 700b vu meters?

One swings from the top, and one swings from the bottom. And Ed has done tons of research on this subject, and I suspect you'll have way more info than you need...

Curious if they are the same size and if they use the same bezel/mounting hardware. I really liked FredR's gain controls on his 400's and wondered if one of Joes new 700b faceplates could be added to a 400 if one was going to add gain controls and a power switch.

there was a 400 on Flebay that a guy added a 700b faceplate, meters and gain controls to a 400

Yep, sure could...BUT, clearance problems could occur using a 700B setup on a 400 between the meters, drive board, pots , switch and the CAPS....

Ahhhh, yeah depth of the 400 chassis is about 4", the depth on my 700ii is about 5-1/2".

that would be really tight without spacing the faceplate out at least 1", and that just adds another item to the list.

It's a squeeze with the normal 400 parts but it can be done. The grey cable goes to a 100k pot up against the LED board.
