Miraculously NO fatalities!

The bridge was the only I-5 crossing of the Skagit River, which has suffered a complete collapse of all lanes for an entire span.

The accident occured earlier today on a span handling over 70 vehicles a day yet fortunately few vehicles were on the brifge at the time and apparently all persons addected were rescued.

For more details and breaking news go to king5.com or nwcn.com or view on NWCN on the air and cable.

Since the first thing hit by the oversized load was the clearance sign on the bridge it would seem that the pilot and truck driver will be in deep doodoo for not paying attention to road restrictions. This is going to have major ramifications for some time.

Yep. It is the major north/south corridor on the west coast.

Mt. Vernon traffic is already a mess this morning to get on the paralleling non-interstate bridge. Makes the Mercer Mess look like a dog spot on the rug.
