Hi Larry,
I don't know where the previous reference is from but I have learned through the years and I may be biased due to a small exposure of decks I have worked on but the A6300 deck seems to surface as an over all great deck. Why Auto reverse, NO DC motor to burn out, No dual Pinch roller to get dirty and loop the tape, three heads to take care of the situation instead of 4 and it's design allows for easier repair on a number of items I could go into further.
As for a deck that has my vote that is not a Teac- it would be either an Otari or better a Studer A807. The latter has three speeds, and internal memory of setting that can be stored. The deck is well built but can be more difficult to repair due to complexity. I would still like to have one in my collection but I will have to settle for the Tascam 62 I bought.
