I'm convinced a recap, regulators, motorized blue velvet volume pot, and new RC4136s made a noticeable difference in sound on my C-1. I haven't done the RCA jacks yet but that's my next move. The old ones are cheap and nasty.
I'm thinking about using that HP mini PC as a streamer, there's a web interface plug in on github for DeadbeeF, or I could do the same thing with Kodi.
Eh I don't know...sensitivity and selectivity leave much to be desired. My 1940s Pilot tuner works better but really isn't HiFi or stereo. I think a Magnum Dynalab is better if you want a modern front end + tube stank. That being said I still wanna pick up another FM-3 to play with.
Dynaco FM-3 (parted out back in '09). I do have an FM Pilot tuner sidecar unit for my Philco 42-390. I guess the oldies station (KDSK) is ok, their audio isn't great though. The "classic rock" stations suck, just Def lepard, Boston, and Guns N Roses on repeat. If I could get a news and...
If you got 5-20k to burn then get the biggest, most imposing, and impractical speakers with the listening space/amplification to match. Your existing CD transport and DAC are probably already at the point of diminishing returns.
Merry Christmas!
I was too damned busy yesterday to air my grievances for Festivus. I participated in the normal Christmas eve shindig with the family and then hit the hot tub with a glass of Laphroaig and a Macanudo stogie. And yes I only buy stuff for the neices/nephews/parents.
Remember to...
I use a higher end Pioneer Laser Disc/DVD player as a CD transport (has spdif out) and a Schiit DAC. I can't tell the difference between it and FLACs from my laptop. The LD player also has a decent display for the CD tracks/time and a remote.
A lot of guys here also use Oppo blu ray players for CDs
The crossovers in my 1202s were terrible......well 1202s in stock form are terrible. And it seems all the guys with Model 19s, model 17s, Valencias, etc upgrade the crossovers because the originals arent great. JBL crossovers are usually pretty good far as I can tell.
I went to active...
I always lol when I see people asking big bux for original Altec crossovers
And whatever wood you use be sure to brace the the shit outta those boxes otherwise rattle rattle and a 250 hz bump
Not even broke in yet but this one is a winner. It kills IGD and sibilance while remaining very musical. The cart body I bought from Ed Saunders back in the day.
