    Phase Linear P-580 Speakers

Sorry to have left this without finishing up, I have been on strike the last 2 months so it gave me enough time to complete this project and a few others as well. I the new insulation was 1 inch blue denim material and very nice to work with. I put all the speakers back in the cabinets then...

    Phase Linear P-580 Speakers

Thanks Bob, This site has a lot of really talented people that have inspired me to up my game, it took me awhile to learn that vintage electronics need to be repaired , rebuilt, and upgraded if possible . I would have upgraded the crossovers on the speakers but the board is encapsulated, check...

    Phase Linear P-580 Speakers

Glass bead blasted the speaker stands that I found on Flea bay, polished up the casters and was able to save the Phase linear sticker on the stands. I really did not care for the original beige color of the stands. Just waiting for the General finishes arm-r-seal to dry before I apply paste wax.

    Phase Linear P-580 Speakers

I found some pictures online of the original speaker grills for the P-580 , I made some out of 3/4 MDF and found a pair of speaker badges on Flea bay. So the restore is starting to come together

    Phase Linear P-580 Speakers

I have a pair of the Phase Linear P-580 speakers that I have been wanting to restore, when I purchased the speakers the cabinets veneer was thrashed, the woofers needed to be re-foamed, Fortunately the Midrange speakers and the tweeters were still in good shape. I think the first thing that I...

    Starting WOPL 400 Finally!

I buttoned up the amp and the 400 sounds great ! Originally to me the 400 had a nicer sound than the 700B . I am really, really impressed with the WOPL kit . Now I cant wait to get started on a 700B and see how the two WOPL amps compare. Thanks again for the inspiration and assistance...

    Starting WOPL 400 Finally!

Back at it today, I wired up the control board , checked voltages , set bias and everything seems good but when I powered down and was going to discharge the bulk caps they were all ready discharged. WTF - I noticed that I had not hooked up the ground so I tried again and checked voltages on...

    Starting WOPL 400 Finally!

George & Sniff, Thank you, I did catch your suggestion on running a tap through the Pem nuts as I was finishing up on the boards, and was quite surprised at the amount of metal shavings that it produced. I totally forgot to lube the threads, definitely my bad on that. And drawing them down...

    Starting WOPL 400 Finally!

I found that out the hard way yesterday, installed the bottom row and as I applied voltage the dim bulb was not dimming . I pulled the transistors back out and noticed one of the Sil pads had been cut right on the rhombus ,so today I will be smoothing the edges and installing with a much...

    Starting WOPL 400 Finally!

Voltage check B+ 80V, B- 80v , now on to the bottom row of transistors. Does anyone use the 10" T handle Allen wrench? It seems like the length keeps me from applying to much torque on the bolts, hopefully just the right amount. I was having problems with the lamp socket on my Dim bulb tester...

    Starting WOPL 400 Finally!

Ready to get this 400 up and running, This is my first WOPL so it seemed to take forever to read, research and try to understand what I am doing. I have tried to emulate what others have done and I appreciate the fine craftsmanship that I am attempting to copy. I tested for shorts to chassis so...
