    RCA 45 J

If you are familiar with those things, I might like to pick your brain sometime within the next few weeks. Today I received replacement capacitors and resistors for the radio/amp portion of a 9Y5 and I have a line on the 4 tubes I'll need. One tube is still good. The record changer I'm...

    what are you listening to?

I was, coincidentally, listening to that Roy Buchanan LP this morning. But my 8 track copy is used.

hFE of original PL output transistors

There were some 2N3055's that I checked prior to the 909's. Their hFE was between 175 snd 445. Or so my "device" said. That is why I was expecting to see higher numbers for those 909's. But I just now looked at the data sheet for ON Semi's 2N3055 and the hFE numbers are nowhere near that...

hFE of original PL output transistors

Nope, the thing operates on 3.7v from an integrated rechargeable battery. But the hFE numbers on the sheet are lower than I thought they'd be.

hFE of original PL output transistors

Thanks, they shall go in the garbage.

hFE of original PL output transistors

I agree and would be happy if I could afford better gear. Better anything really. But not in the cards and even more so the past two years since I've been in negative cash flow. You should see the place I had to move into. Savings dwindle from basic living expenses.

hFE of original PL output transistors

Could be, it's only a $20 item that happens to read hFE. I went through a bunch of various TO3 transistors to see which ones passed or failed and recorded hFE numbers for all of them. Other transistors all displayed higher numbers than the old PL parts. Made me wonder if that was normal...

hFE of original PL output transistors

It's an out of curiosity question. There are a dozen (X)PL909 transistors in a bag that I saved after removal from my 700B. I have no intention of using them but I checked them with one of those cheap Chinese component testers. All of the transistors were identified as BJT - NPN so I assume...

You need an 8 track and few tapes to round things out.

Do any cassette deck repair fans have a Pio CT-F2121 service manual?

I have one of those decks and posted here about it’s motor not too long ago. After installing it, I’ve encountered a couple of problems. Having a legible schematic might help me out. The one on HIFi Engine is too low rez for me to see when zooming in. It there is someone here that has a...

    phase linear 400

Is that a TC1 multi component tester but without a case? I ordered a TC1 last year to replace another that I burnt out. I think the landed cost from China to BC was $24 CAD.

    Funny pictures...

I had to forward this to a friend. She knows my dog Milo really well and it fits him to a T.

    Peachy Direct To Disc cassette

A pirated bootleg from Indonesia, Malaysia etc. I had a Whitesnake cassette and a Belinda Carlisle cassette both from those areas. Intended markets were eastern countries. Big business at one time.

Tube amp and Power Supply Identification

There are microphone collectors (or hoarders). I knew one once, a long time ago.

It would be nice to know if these choices of transistor substitutes is OK - aka I don't trust my judgement

Thanks Don. That was a concern. My only concern actually. If oscillation does occur, would it be audible or be too high and only show up on a scope? Which I don't have. If the transition frequency of the output transistors I intend to use (MJE15032G) enters the equation, that number is 30MHz.

It would be nice to know if these choices of transistor substitutes is OK - aka I don't trust my judgement

This is in addition to my thread on "creating" a resistor for the Akai AA1010 I was reluctant to admit having. I got hold of the proper resistors so that's done. I now know that the NPN of a pair of driver transitors is shot. My intention is replacing the NPN and it's companion PNP. I...

Pioneer CT-F2121 - needs new motor?

Just swapping motor leads. My motor might get here this week. If nothing bad happens in the second or two it takes to determine rotation, I can see for myself which way round the wires go. The seller still has his ad up, with a factory description. Says direction is clockwise which is...

Pioneer CT-F2121 - needs new motor?

Yesterday I learned from a fellow who ordered the same Matsushita MHI-5R9C motor for the same CT-F2121 deck from the same vendor as I did. He is in the US so got his first. He claims it runs in the wrong direction. That does not seem right at all - some MHI-5R9C motors spin clockwise and...
