Thanks Joe and yes, I do have the schematic.

Replacing selenium rectifier with silicon diode but what amperage?

Does anyone know much about selenium rectifiers? Last fall, I mentioned in a different thread about having an RCA 9Y5. I've replaced quite few components inside but in the process, I suspect the selenium rectifier has failed - as in dropping voltage. The dial lamp now dims almost immediately...

Too much bias on PL400 series 2

From 1996 to 2011 my job was quoting on and providing replacement electronics (and other things) if any were involved in a home insurance contents claim. The quotes went directly to the adjusters. One claim involved an large Akai power amp. It was determined to be the reason why a...

    phase linear 400

For sound quality? Short answer is yes. That DH101 is the only piece of Hafler gear I still own. It was included for free with a NAD 2100 that I bought off Craigslist for $75. I wasn't really interested in the pre-amp but did not refuse it. This was all before learning of this Pheonix forum...

    phase linear 400

What Hafler? Last week I finished my latest round in a ten year tussle with a DH101.

PHASE LINEAR 1100 SERIES ii EQUALIZER NEEDS ATTENTION

Nice to see that PL's EQ is a parametric. I thought it would be the typical 10 or 12 band graphic.

Any opinions on this large difference in HFE numbers?

Replacing transistors in this DH101 fast became a frustrating experience. The diagram I was following (contained in the service manual) used triangle symbols to indicate transistor positions and designated position numbers - Q1, Q2, etc. I have not encountered transistors depicted with...

David Lindley, Multi-Instrumentalist With Jackson Browne’s Band, Dies

I bought the El Rayo X album when it came out specifically for the track Mercury Blues but thought the rest of the LP was dreck. I knew nothing of David Lindley other than that song. I didn't care for Jackson Browne, never owned any of his albums so never knew the two were connected. One of...

Any opinions on this large difference in HFE numbers?

Interesting. The last time I ordered from Mouser, shipping took a couple of weeks so I have taken to using Digikey. Digikey's shipments arrive in a couple of days. What popped up first on Digikey's site was the description for On Semi's MPSA63 which said "obsolete" and likewise for MPSA13...

Any opinions on this large difference in HFE numbers?

Thanks and no, I took that information from a datasheet site I was looking at. I did not look at others but your comment prompted me to do that. According to info on alldatasheet.com, HFE for MPSA63 is either 5,000 or 10,000. And HFE for MPSA65 either 50,000 or 20,000 I can't recall from...

Any opinions on this large difference in HFE numbers?

Within the past week I decided to use a (built by someone from a kit) Hafler DH101 preamp that's been more or less idle for some time. I've had it well over ten years and during that time have replaced all the electrolytic capacitors, RCA jacks and the strips the jacks mount to. The times I...

    sun fire Theatre Grand V

Jeez. Whenever I see the backside of a piece of gear like that, my cynical side always imagines that those in charge of audio cable manufacturing companies thought they must have died and gone to heaven.

    Cleaning and re-lubing potentiometers

It is petroleum based liquid. I found it at an auto parts store but I believe it's marketed more towards bicyclists. An online description: Tri-Flow Superior Lubricants light viscosity allows for deep penetration into hard-to-reach moving parts. Its a great all-purpose lube that excels in...

    Cleaning and re-lubing potentiometers

A lifelong service tech, now deceased, told me to use Tri-Flow on rotary controls. I had an extremely stiff input selector on a Heathkit tube amp. The stuff worked like a hot damn.

    David Crosby Passed Today

True 'nuff. My peer group back then were not into polite, introspective tunes. Loud and aggressive was where it was at for us - mostly UK bands. Maybe like 75% UK vs 25% North American. But the consensus was not unanimous. I for one, was into Slade but no one I hung with liked them.

    David Crosby Passed Today

In the late 60's & early 70's, my taste in music did not include CSN or CSNY. I could only listen to AM radio back then and I hated Marakesh Express with a passion which of course was played way too many times. And then came Deja Vu and the overplayed singles were lame, lame, lame as far as I...

    WANTED: studio monitors

I have no personal experience with them but a record shop I know of (that also sells turntables) claim these Kanto YU4 speakers are popular. Built in phono preamp so no hardware required other than a turntable. A small living space is the norm in these parts so I get their appeal.

    ButterHeads????? HUH

I've used some recipes lately that call for brown butter. It would save some time and steps if butter were already pre-browned.

    Shure V15-V

They were to demonstrate the capabilities of respective Shure V series cartridges. Era III - V15 III Era IV - V15 IV Before those, I only remember Shure's record - "An Audio Obstacle Course". Don't know if there was an Era V.
