    Dodgy Dragons

Yes, there was a settlement last year. I lost $750 on the deal but my thinking was that part of a loaf was better than none.

It was sometime in the spring of 2022 that I dropped it off there.

Off topic but the photo Nando posted of the consignment Nak Dragon at The Turntable Shop shows my Thorens TD124 in its baltic birch base next to it on the left. It too was left there on consignment but was not present when contents of The Turntable Shop were assessed after the owner's passing.

Price up, availability down for replacement styli in the near future?

None of the turntables I am concerning myself with right now are worthy of anything but an entry level cartridge. There are four tables and all were pretty much landfill rescues. Although I did pay for them, it wasn't a whole lot. One is a Revolver Rebel, two are Sony's and one is a CEC...

Price up, availability down for replacement styli in the near future?

What vendor sells AT3600's for $12? I'll be needing a couple more cheap cartridges shortly. Those I've gotten up til now have been AT 95C's which are $50CAD.

Price up, availability down for replacement styli in the near future?

I ordered a conical stylus from a vendor and questioned why no .06mil were available which was the size of the original stylus I was replacing. And that all I found online were 0.7mil. This is the answer I received: "Yes the generic replacements don’t cover all the original diamond tip...

    Wanted: old Jazz/Bop LPs

I agree with that. There are some Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino etc 78's I have that seem to sound more like what the intended sound was supposed to be. 33 1/3 and even 45 versions of the same songs don't seem to have the same oomph.

I went to an Arby's 2 weeks ago. Was on a road trip and had to detour into a town I wasn't planning to go through but went anyway specifically to get an Arby's sandwich. A dozen or more years ago I used to like them. My order was a large beef and cheddar with a large curly fries - no...

    PL 400 series 1

I have a 4 fin 400 which has darkly tinted meter lenses. Dark enough so that without directly viewing the original incandescent bulb filaments, I could not tell that they were lit. Bright white LEDs on a White Oak lightboard overcame the dark tint. Is that a date stamp on the top left...

How to match pinout for trim pots?

Two of the four output transistors were gone and are now replaced. When I receive and install new bias pots, the DBT will hopefully go dark. Assuming that both the 12 turn pot and single turn pot I ordered can be made to fit, is one better than the other for bias adjutment in a SS amp? My...

How to match pinout for trim pots?

Thanks Glen, that will help. Those I ordered should arrive in 3 or 4 days. Next chore for me I guess is pulling the output transistors and see if any of those got damaged.

How to match pinout for trim pots?

The original that I removed has a width of 11mm so I chose two types based on that dimension. I was focusing on 12 turn top adjustment so settled on one that is 6.35mm X 4.19mm. When in front of me, I will see if it can be made to fit. I looked as well at single turn type and ordered that...

How to match pinout for trim pots?

Hoping for some enlightenment. If the distance between pins on trim pot data sheets exists, I cannot comprehend it. Other than being 1K ohm and 1/4 watt, I am at a loss to pick one. I removed an original that is suspect so as I could measure distances between pins but so far, I cannot see...

Someone I knew related how he and some friends created injectable solutions from food items to experience the taste sensation. He made particular mention of chocolate cake.

100 watt resistors needed for a one time job - did not expect them to look like this.

Well, I've been proven wrong before and I appreciated the DIY suggestions but I'm going with those chassis mount 100 watt resistors. If I forsaw myself needing large dummy speaker loads in the future, it might prompt me cobble one together. This is where I could be mistaken but I imagine...

100 watt resistors needed for a one time job - did not expect them to look like this.

I'll take that as an OK to use this resistor type. There is a piece of aluminum here I can attach a resistor to and I will if gets overly warm. I don't think the proceedure I need it for will take very long. Just a matter of adjusting a couple of pots while monitoring voltage.

100 watt resistors needed for a one time job - did not expect them to look like this.

I am at the tail end of a small project. I replaced two relays and all electrolytic capacitors (100uF and smaller) in a Sanyo 100 watt MOSFET amplifier. The service manual describes an adjustment proceedure that calls for a 100 watt 8 ohm resistor across + and - speaker terminals. The...

    what are you listening to?

I have a copy of that on vinyl. Bought it brand new when the jacket had "at Albert Hall" printed on it. Never did open it - still sealed. Consequently, I've never heard that recording before.
