You'd think but everything out there is the old style ventilated style for the 3009/3012/etc. aluminum arms. May end up dropping 300 Euros on one from England.
Sure - I was all in at $350. There's a $45 up-front charge to cover return postage if you decide not to proceed, which he then included in the $350. So the work itself was $315.
Have no idea what he charges for a retip to a good cartridge, but based on what I paid the other guy, I'd guess it's...
Now I need to find another magnesium SME 309 headshell so swapping cartridges is easier. I've got two of the three mounted as I got an extra with the rig back when but those headshells are scarce as hen's teeth.
Initial thoughts are the Sumiko is the darkest of the three by just a bit, the...
Those Pickerings are good MM cartridges. Back when a Shure M91ED was all of $19.95 (if purchased with the AR-XA or Pioneer PL-10, of course), I couldn't come up with the extra $20 for the Pickerings. But always wanted one before I got hooked on moving coils.
This was a major impetus behind my home recording studio project all those years ago, though I didn't have 0.1% of Mark's resources. It was still quite instructive, especially a couple of the concerts I recorded in our music hall in the Fine Arts Center.
It puts me in a nice position, Nando. The Denon DL-304 still has about half the life of the stylus and the Sumiko is brand new. And sitting right in between is the Denon DL-301 MkII which Overmodulated sent me a while back and has been seeing some rotation in the ensuing time. He said it had...
And Steve Leung at VAS up in New Jersey has worked his magic, just as predicted by Stratdoc. This Sumiko Talisman AT that came with my VPI/SME rig all those years ago and has been moribund since getting it back from a retipping service is now singing like a canary. Turns out a couple,of wires...
You're welcome. As a content creator in a previous life and someone in the business (but not for much longer), I thought it summed up the situation pretty well.
Eh, I grow weary of internet heroes these days. I've never seen one in the wild, but that Z9100 looks to have all the capability I'd ever want. Good luck with whatever you decide - it appears that other than the potential cost, you win either way.
Headphones. Listening with headphones so I can hear over the little ceramic heater in my office. Basement running at 55-ish degrees in this weather with only the one vent for the entire 1100 square feet. Got down to 9 here last night, high of 25 today.
So how's the weather in your neck of the...
This article just popped up on my feed this morning. Maybe an even better analysis of where we are with respect to the increasing lack of importance of music today:

Sorry to hear that. Is the deck's capabilities of real interest to you, though? If so, I'd consider getting it fixed and ask the seller to contribute to the repair. Bird in hand and all that as its appearance is good...
I've found it can make some difference if you're careful with you levels and don't drive them hard so you create that pumping but I'm in the minority. The downside is the tape probably won't work on any other deck.
Try a couple of recordings on your K-720 where you keep the levels peaking at or...
