PL 700 II REPLACEMENT MAIN VOLUME POTS

And that's the beauty of being able to "roll your own" - with this stuff.

PL 700 II REPLACEMENT MAIN VOLUME POTS

Hmm ... I wondered the same when I scrolled through those build pictures, but assumed that was "omitted for clarity" as they say.

    Shure V15-V

Speaking of Shure V15, I was going through my old collection of records and found this. I don't think I ever used it.

PL 700 II REPLACEMENT MAIN VOLUME POTS

I was thinking the variac might have played a role as well…but easy enough to go back and give it a shot later today. I was too interested in HEARING the difference! The meters are fun to watch, but the door to my rack is usually closed, so the meters are out of view anyway

PL 700 II REPLACEMENT MAIN VOLUME POTS

Ok…I will give that a try, but I had tried both 60Hz and then thought the protection relay might not have liked that and so I went for 1KHz and that did the same. Note I had the generator connected to one channel and about 50mv when I powered it up both times. The idea was to ramp the input...

PL 700 II REPLACEMENT MAIN VOLUME POTS

I’m leaning toward hardwiring the input jacks to the control board and leaving the volume pots in place, unwired, to retain the original appearance. Chances are somebody will flip that switch when the amp is on and speaker parts will go flying. besides, adding a switch will add wire and...

PL 700 II REPLACEMENT MAIN VOLUME POTS

Well George, you've done it again .... you planted a seed that started yet another wave of discussion out here on Phoenix! And to think I just come here for the bad jokes and pin-up girl pictures! I opened the covers on the 400-II I built two years ago, my first foray into this WOPL World, as...

    Preamplifier prototype?

The cursed ribbon wire! I have a P3600 that had 2 lengths if that stuff. The longer length delaminated, wire corroded and ultimately failed. Replaced it with common insulated ribbon cable. Gotta wonder if this was a prototype in the works right before PL was bought. That inside is pristine...

    Preamplifier prototype?

Very cool…never saw anything like this. It pre-dates the numbering scheme, although the design and push buttons look more of the “phase II” generation equipment, sans the handles. How about some nude pics? I bet Ed would know about this kind of stuff.

    What cassette deck ?

There is a seller on ebay that has a set of calibration tapes he made on a Nak reference deck of some sort. I wonder if it is worth the gamble to try those for playback azimuth. Then again, I believe you have a trusted tech who works on Nakamichi decks…probably best to stay with what works.

    What cassette deck ?

nice score! That Auto-Azimuth function is what I now recall was what broke on my 682ZX years ago. While performing the tape calibration, I recall hearing the azimuth motor oscillating back and forth, and finally the process ended with the Record and Pause lights blinking … essentially a...

    LEDs in place of attenuators.

I’m guessing in its easiest implementation, a DPDT switch could be used. Just be sure to unplug before switching.

    TEAC Monster.....

I bought a Nakamichi 682ZX new in the early 80s, have not used in years. Recently turned it on and realized the transport needs attention ... lubrication and probably belts and more. I go back and forth between selling as-is or tearing the covers off and refreshing everything. Prior to the...

    Ken Block Dies..

I've seen some nasty sledding accidents and heard of at least 2 deaths while out there years ago. Usually bad things happen at night, while riding on lakes...ice heaves and docks that are not seen while cruising at high speed. Very sad to hear of any death while riding. Ken was a master at...

    Hello From Belgium

Very interesting set of equipment in that rack, Udo. Aside from the PL boxes (which we are kinda familiar with here !), can you describe the other parts of your system? I'm not as familiar with the shelves above the PL boxes. oh - did you do anything particular to the PL boxes when upgrading...
