Besides, those are crazy cheap, 0.015$/pc and can be ordered min 10pcs which is just great since...

Seems to bee something really fine and expensive and besides not available, at least in EU. I'm looking for good enough resistor kit 100Ohm - 1MOhm, reasonably good, don't have to be Sci-Fi. Resistance without side effects.

I'm wondering if there is a noticeable difference between branded resistors and Chineese resistors. If we say two resistors of the same value, 1/4w, 1% or 5% tolerance, does really matters when it comes to decks and other audio equipment? I use to buy Vichay in a values I need but I would like...

Here is a two more pictures, first one closer look where you can see from the same angle as before lapping, and a second one where you can clearly see how shine a Phoenix is :)

And here is after. Some minor scratches but I don't think it will affect its functionality. Last lapping film used is 0,3um, didn't had 0,1 but that's OK I think.

Here are TDKs I have, mostly 2-3 of each except SA60, SA90, AD-C and SA-X90 which are some more. That SA-C90 with broken wrap is unfortunately only one I have. Besides those, I have a bunch of those newer which we all know are worthless (blue SA, one of latest D series and some FE) Missing...

And maybe most important that Maxell didn't screwed their tapes as TDK did. Just love Maxell chrome tapes. Shame that they are not manufacturing them any more.

And I have couple of these, but no Vince, I'm not gonna unwrap them :) It just feels wrong to "broke" something that is 40 years old. Right or wrong, I just can't, it's bigger than me. And besides why when there's a plenty of other good tapes to use.

My mistake, it was 1983 as on picture. It says clearly 83 on jcard. TDK was my favs in beginning, but those blue was a big disappointment and after that I changed to Maxell, UDII, XLII and XLII-S. Like even BASF Chrome Maxima and some Sony chrome tapes but didn't used them so much as Maxell.

Adjusted rec gain for about +0.5db as you said, cant hear difference between source and tape now (TDK SA from about '82), but I'm 47 my ears aren't "brand new". How recording on some other tapes is gonna be, I don't know, didn't tested yet. There have to be some difference but it can't be soooo big.

Overbiased government? Maybe some heads have to be lapped?!

Here is a result and I don't think I can make it better. What are your opinions? BTW, roll off at LF have to do with sound card. When I play with 0db the source is perfectly flat, but at -20db there is a roll of as on picture, don't know why.

Update for those who are curios: Replaced R1 (68K) with 100K and got much better (flatter) FR. Now just need to adjust bias but that's easy. Big thanx to brother Vince for his time, patience and of course for sharing his knowledge. BTW, anyone know if Alex A.N.T. is still selling a Test tapes...

Yeah, but what is that stuff author is using? Have you seen it before?
