Yeah Bob. I read that Pioneer and the others were battling Nakamichi at the time and Pioneer's marketing strategy was similar performance at a lower price.

So, here's where I'm at. Every replaced component checked for proper polarity and marked with a sharpie once checked. I found one reversed electrolytic, my error, fixed it. Have checked the wiring point to point twice, against the schematic. No errors found. So, it's ready to bring up on the...

    Interesting piece of PL history

If I heard right, the guy said they modified a Phase Linear. Only photos of so called 'Pink Floyd" amps I've seen were the stack of Dual 500's that guy in England has in his shed. I'll try to find the thread.

The Pink Floyd Phase Linear Mark III power amp. Very cool!

If I can get it working without making a catastrophic mistake, yeah, worth it. I think the changes I'm making are key. However, it's gonna take time to check all the interconnects before bringing it up. That's alright. Would be working on something else if not this.

Slow progress. Not a fan of twisting cables, but it was the right thing to do with the header cables. Gives me room to work and I can actually see the boards. Can also now see where they begin and end. There was a lot of point to point wiring crossing here and there, board to board, with the...

    700 Series II Build

Maybe read up on how they used to run stacked Large Advents. That was a thing at one time

    700 Series II Build

Consider getting larger speakers for a larger room. I didn't realize how much difference it makes until I picked up a pair of JBL L150 Millenniums. Larger rooms need larger speakers.

    phase linear 400

Nice 4 wheeler, every ranch needs one! Could be a dirty MAP sensor. They do need cleaned with the appropriate spray occasionally. May have the wrong plugs in it. Use the brand and part# of the plugs Toyota recommends. No fancy so called high performance plugs! AC Delco Iridium where called for...

    phase linear 400

I think it comes down to dependability for a daily driver, or backup vehicle. I have a carbureted Chevy 350 in the old Jeep M715 pickup. NOT a daily driver. My daily driver's are all modern with fuel injection and electronic ignition and need to be able to go cross country with no issues. The...

    phase linear 400

I'd fix the check engine light and the sensor or wiring. I don't see a check engine light as a annoyance. I see it as a built in diagnostic indicator that's helpful. I really like modern fuel injection and coil packs versus the old carburators, chokes, and points. With a good code reader and...

    PL 300 S2

Stock spec Cornell Dubilier. They came with Mallory markings. Hard to say what's available now. Setting the bias was a little tricky, mini grabbers are required. It's all in the thread including the caps A great little amp!

Beginning mock up. That horizontal motherboard takes three vertical boards that plug into standard size Molex connectors. Pins still have good plating, but many suspect cracks in the joints on several of the pins, so they got resoldered. There is access to the foil side of the motherboard by...

    PL7000S2

Boards are finally recapped and cleaned of all that dirt and thick coating of wave soldering flux. Very good quality boards, not a single issue with a lifted trace or anything else. Went ahead and replaced the ceramic .047 uF coupling caps with Panasonic ECW film, and the other smaller values...

    Phase Linear 4000 Resurrection

The 700 Pro amps came stock with 1/4" phono plugs. A RCA drops right in, making sure to float it above ground with the inner and outer fiber washers. Here's mine, fully WOPL'D in the original heavy steel chassis. Custom made for the sound company Audio Analysts, and likely saw duty at Red Rocks...

Isolated Variable Transformers? Or Separate Iso and Variac? Plus a Newbie Tech Question

I use a B&K TR-110 isolation transformer as seen on the rear of the bench. I'm a hobbyist with no post grade school electronics training so I got it to play it safe with the scope. I don't work on anything old enough to have a hot chassis. Having it gives me confidence to experiment and learn...
