Yup- I had spied a few of the Pioneer SX-55XX receivers - black-faced European variants of the SX-series of 950, 1050 and 1250 and just didn't pull the trigger on a SX-5590, years ago. Of course, it has more than quadrupled in asking price since 2014. Nando.

One very capable and good-looking receiver. I didn't know there was a European (black) version of the 9090DB. Nando.

I want to see this deck work for you, as it's certainly a survivor. Try acetone first then play an unused true chrome BASF cassette through the deck a few times. Nando.

The corrosion on parts of the tape transport is worrisome. I hope you can successfully clean it up. Did you play it through a system to hear how it does, as it has no headphone jack. Nando.

One of my cousins is Domenico Sacco and he currently lives on the opposite coast - the Ionian Sea in Crotone. During our vacation in 1972 he (Mimo) would take me to the marina to help him while he was working there. Loved every minute of it. Nando.

@vince666: I spoke to my mom about the family lineage - as we talk to each other every day and she still lives in her own home at age 93- about a 20 minute walk from my place. She is the only surviving sibling from my grandmother/father on the Colica side. There is the Sacco side from my dad's...

My parents were born and lived in Vibo Marina until they emigrated to Canada in the late 1950's. My wife and I would love travel there once we retire. I spent a whole summer there (Vibo) in 1972 when our family and my uncle, aunt and cousin made the trip. On our way from Canada to Italy, 1972...

    what are you listening to?

Waylon Jennings' on VHS I picked up the concert VHS of "The Lost Outlaw Performance" (August 12, 1978), yesterday, for 50 cents. I got the Sony Bravia KLV-20G300A for $10 and a Sony combination DVD/VHS deck at the same time for the same amount a few weeks earlier. Both work perfectly. Using my...

I bought my a/d/s C2/3 cassette deck from Ron @Northwinds more than 10 years ago. Unfortunately, it's not a deck I want to sell. It's unique and it's well-built. I think it weighs over 20 lbs.. Playing Miles' mix tape: Nando.

Cannonball Adderly On DAT I listened to a DAT recording of Cannonball Adderley played back on my Sony TCD-D10. I then recorded one track to WAV file which is 11 minutes long. A short cell phone video taken during the recording through my Tascam DR-05: And the WAV file: DAT Recording...

Discussion about vintage cassette tape degradation

The manufacturer can cut the pancakes to whatever length - so length alone doesn't prove the origin of the tape stock. Nando.

Discussion about vintage cassette tape degradation

So - the story behind the TDK CD Power is that the tape stock may have come from offcuts from TDK SA-X pancakes, as it calibrates closely to it. Watch the video until the end. There may be an issue with the longer lengths (110), not present in the shorter lengths. Nando.

Discussion about vintage cassette tape degradation

I'm not sure about the tape thickness between the Maxell and TDK at C-100 tape length. Not a length I record to that often, but I've played a number of C-100 tapes - including used tapes - without issue. Nando.
