Leave it to the tight assed Americans

Read your title and said 'What did we do now?" While we were in Germany 60-64, we traveled or went to the beach for vacation. I got to see Michelangelo's David and believe my brother was named after that statue. My mom was an art history major and I got to see a number of European museums. I...

I still like my Hafler D110 preamp. very quiet...but had some switch noises that I fixed. Super nice tone controls! great dynamic range

And yet the DH-200s are my worst sounding amps but they still sound great and as I said, I'm keeping em. Luxman tubes, DNA-1, Citation 22, Luxman M-12, sold the Crown PSA-2 and the Haflers.

I still like my Hafler D110 preamp. very quiet...but had some switch noises that I fixed. Super nice tone controls! great dynamic range

Hafler made good crap. I still have 2 of the three DH-200 kits I bought new and swapped the third for a pair of tube amps I still have from that 1982-3 trade. Probably not getting rid of any of them. The Haflers sell for so little it isn't worth it and the tube amps sound great. David...

Crown Macro Reference Monster amp rework.

I thought it was a Polish site but some of the words are Hungarian. I don't think there is any ruski screwing going on with the site. I have been a user/member for over 12 years. Nice work on this amp. I'd be happy to try one out.

    How about a capacitor discussion?

Same as originals. Nichicon. oops, I lied, I am using mostly UKL which are not listed as Audio grade. And UPW for the power supplies. I am using a UFW in one location. KL being low leakage will be a quieter cap than original, not that it is necessary. This based on my order. I have a...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

Just ordered caps for 3 power amps. Got UPWs for the AC power supply and audio caps for the amplifier boards. I'm going to use films for the small values and that will be good enough to be a nice improvement overall, whether sonic or not, maybe I'll see as I'm doing two of the same amp...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

A quarter next to the cap I used for the replacement for the large value electrolytic cap in the DQ-10s would almost not show up. I had to use a large coffee cup to show the size. The cap is 3.75Φ x 3.25". I used a diced tomato can, not that regular 14.5 oz but the 28 oz. size cut and...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

Hafler DH-200 input cap is bi-polar. I talked to a Nichicon engineer about their 'audio grade' caps. He said that there are differences which were trade secrets, materials of the electrolyte, maybe, the way the foil is laser etched and the insulation used between layers are my guesses. The...

    Show Off Your Linear-Tracking Turntables

Got a Goldmund Studio with T3F tonearm. Won't track a record because the belt is not moving when the motor turns. Whether this is a tired belt or a mechanism that is more work to move than the belt can supply, I have to determine but figure it is the belt. Possibly needing a new belt but...

    Gasoline prices Skyrocketing!

They say prices are going up as the switch to the summer blend is getting started.

    How about a capacitor discussion?

If you are installing power supply capacitors that are supposed to handle ripple current wouldn't it make sense to use a cap rated for higher ripple current than some audio cap? but when you get into the circuits and the rail voltage has a cap dangling from it to ground, is that part of the...

    How about a capacitor discussion?

You can improve the deck with quality caps but fully loading a unit with audio grade caps, even in the power supply where one should use power supply caps doesn't seem to be the right idea. Any new quality cap, Wurth, Panasonic, Nichicon, CDE or whoever Digikey and Mouser sell will be better...

Anybody ever have a Cart Re-Tipped?

worthy cartridges to have retipped. As are some other top end units from the past. Looking forward to your comments on the sound of the collection. For my vintage nails, the 23R and Koetsu Black are both from the early 80s and my MC20 is late 70s. Only V15 I've had was the II version. The...

Anybody ever have a Cart Re-Tipped?

Mine rides on an Undamped Unipivot without a finger lift. And I let the boyz drive it when they come over to cruise to tunes. Typing that makes me think I'm nuts.

Anybody ever have a Cart Re-Tipped?

No way I'd rather have a chunk of aluminum in place of the ruby cantilever in my 23R. First it would be junk and second it would need to be called the 23A. As far as replacement cantilevers I'm not up on what is good other than boron. Don't know if tapered aluminum is offered. The Soundsmith...

Anybody ever have a Cart Re-Tipped?

Micro-Line is a name for a narrow elliptical. Standard elliptical was .3x.7 then the .2x.7 showed up, narrower and supposedly sounding better. Then everybody and their brother came out with a special diamond shape, Fritz Gyger, Van den Hul, Shibata and others. The Shibata is a very thin...

Anybody ever have a Cart Re-Tipped?

I don't like the idea of retipping for 3bills a nail that sold for 50 bucks back in the day. There are better options out there. Joseph Long, needlestein banned and content removed from ak, cartridge_retipping-5 on ebay. Probably banned for in-thread advertising his services without being a...

Our Top 5 Vintage Stereo Receivers You Can Score For Under $300!!!

The HK sounds very good. I had one in the sound room hooked up to speakers and it was my go to radio. One button and I'm listening, not big rig to fire up. Sold the Onks back in the day, before the 2000 mentioned above but the x500 series and these were nice. For three bills one could find a...
