    Polk Audio mystery speakers

In my opinion, Polk never made a bad speaker.

    Telefunken TC 750 - A new challenge!

Some 4066 applications are shunt to ground type rather than in signal path. I've always wondered if the distortions in a series design are lessened when the 4066 shunts a signal to ground.

    What cassette deck ?

My deck is the original Nakamichi 680, which is not just beautiful, but also takes the technology somewhere totally unexpected with 1/2 speed record and playback. Something about having a lawsuit halt its production makes the 680 almost dangerous to hold.

    Redesigned Nakamichi classic tape transport.

It would have been simpler to get rid of the too tight belt, which causes looping, and install a good belt. Increasing flywheel mass lowers the flutter frequencies due to belt stretch. I also bet he used an undersized supply flywheel to create back tension. Unfortunately, the deck alredy has...

    Dynaco Stereo 400

It looks like it is kit built, and someone did a sucky job recapping. To cure the distortion, resolder the driver boards around the differential pair. I used one of these for years on Dahlquist DQ10s, and was very happy.

    Metrology - my second hobby

Agree that tubes are sexy? Anyone who has listened to different power amps knows that watts, for one, are not equal. Power measurements have got to be the best example of how tests can lead one astray.

6th Annual Audiophile Day October 2nd

Ha ha. Yesterday I wore earplugs at the sawmill. Almost anti-audiophile?

    Metrology - my second hobby

I have been preaching for years that audio tests do not correlate to good sound, but no one seems to agree. Years ago I grabbed a vacuum tube precision voltage source box from a university dumpster. The thing was loaded with OA2 and OA3 tubes. I tossed it, because I was looking for audio tubes...

    BMR Speaker Kit

IS that 3/4" plywood? Massive cabinets are keys to good performance. If you want to go next level, line the insides with lead foil (car stereo dampening sheets) Another tip, instead of poly fill, shred up wool sweaters from Goodwill.

A.N.T. Audio Kora 3T phono stage DIY interest?

Having heard a short list of battery operated units, I'd recommend going that route. LiPo batteries are cheap enough the pre could run for days between charges.

    Flattening a warped record.

I have a friend with a $2k record press machine. The duty cycle is about 18 hours per record...going slow and keeping the heat as low as possible are the keys to success.

    Hi

My advice: quit whining! If a forum is owned by someone, they make the rules. Forums cost money once they reach a certain size. Pacific doesn't want his name out there, and that is his choice. (I got a nasty gram for using his real name in a thread) Like AK before, TH is being micro-managed...

    Another opinion on Counterpoint Amplifiers

The other thing about them is the circuit boards have some funny stuff "written" in the copper foil.

    Another opinion on Counterpoint Amplifiers

I really like the SA-100. I have a pair of the J-Fets from a parts amp. Not only were the J-Fets matched, but a gate resistor was chosen by some mysterious method...if you look at a couple of the same model you'll see different values 33-68 ohm.

    Welcome Tapeheads!

Is the distortion present when you listen to headphones? Do the tone controls change the distortion? Start another thread so we don't hijack this one.
