that kind of Sony dual capstan DD mechanism is simply wonderful.

    Deck for recording

Totally agree, my friend. And your BIC T3 is a very nice beast of a deck, oldschool in the good way and with some impressive heads. It also has the bonus of the double speed, btw! Anyways, troubleshooting and restoration was a bit of a long nightmare, but a totally worthy effort.

AIWA AD-F880-MAX , my own heavily modified version of this deck.

a good new! I was able to boost max bias by about 6% which is enough to fully exploit a few metal tapes i tried (Sony Metal ES , Metal XR and Esprit IV) but maybe also a few more... anyways, my metal tapes are almost all Sony's then it's OK this way! Today, i've read again (and with more care)...

AIWA AD-F880-MAX , my own heavily modified version of this deck.

That's a good point, indeed! I've noticed they mention parts values for both permalloy and amorphous heads in the B965's SM... they would be surely useful to put amorphous heads just there in the B965 (something I will do sooner or later). Anyways, the B965 with amorphous heads has also the...

AIWA AD-F880-MAX , my own heavily modified version of this deck.

Thinking out loud about HX-PRO matter and how to boost the bias current... Noticeing that this deck's HX-PRO circuit isn't based on µPC1297CA but they use a few NJM4560S op-amps, etc... as shown in the zone of the schematic just below the Dolby encoder chip IC3. In the past, while modifying my...

AIWA AD-F880-MAX , my own heavily modified version of this deck.

Indeed! It all started with ANT's mods several years ago... then the new heads which forced me to study this deck's schematic with care... and while doing things, new ideas happened to arise then it was just a matter of adding yet another modification after the other... to the point of this...

AIWA AD-F880-MAX , my own heavily modified version of this deck.

and this is how the deck now looks about from the front panel. (must re-print the stickers at the print shop here below, because the black background in my home printer is more dark grey than proper black, but this is a minor cosmetic thing I will do at a later time). deck is still missing the...

AIWA AD-F880-MAX , my own heavily modified version of this deck.

Now, after the needed mods to solve issues and the "quality" mods (such as ANT's ones) and the ones to make the new AX head working fine, a quick (teaser) review about what I call the "versatility" mods, all about the recording side. I've re-purposed the MPX filter button/switch to be able to...

AIWA AD-F880-MAX , my own heavily modified version of this deck.

Hi guys, finally my own project on one of my AIWA AD-F880 , started a long time ago and where I've applied a long series of modifications, is quite ready! These first few post are just a teaser... as soon as I gather all the details, schematics, ect, I will add them here in this thread. At...

    Deck for recording

was looking for a Happy New Year thread, in fact. Happy 2024 my friend and all of my friends :D Had also taken a few interesting food pics these latest weeks and must still post them. Btw, these holydays I am working on my just modded AIWA AD-F880 where I added a lot more mods, including...

    Deck for recording

as soon as possible, I will send you detailed instructions for the HX-PRO mod on the B965, including (my) pics of the actual mod on the REC amp PCB and which were never shared there at TH. It's a very easy mod. You just need a couple 470 Kohm resistors and, if you like, a piece of heat shrinking...

    Deck for recording

Yes, the B965M isn't only a deck with a great playback sound but it's also a NICE recorder! Of course, while staying within the level limits due to the permalloy, but the B965M pushes them just as much as possible. Did you add the HX-Pro mod? I've noticed it helps on normal bias tapes (ferrics...

Lenor fabric softener and nail files on pinch rollers... That's a hell of a knowledge! :p PS: never do that, if you care about your rollers. ;)

    Deck for recording

if you aren't chasing the extra decibel, permalloy heads are OK. otherwise, sendust heads can usually push tapes a bit more (especially type4 which permalloy heads cannot push to their limits), but so many sendust heads sound like crap on playback and I would be careful about those. then...

Low frequency loss thru a deck

Since i should give a clean and a drop of oil at capstan and replace the belts, I will soon open my B965M, modified directly by A.N.T., and give a good look at what I have in that zone. But on my deck there are ANT4066 chips... but, if i understood it correctly, MAX4066 would work the same...
