Pics of your Favorite Cassette Tapes

grey hubs version is from 1985 while that white hubs version is from 1986-87. The 1988 version has a different shell with smaller window (the so called infinity shell). totally agree about it being a wonderful tape, one of the very best metals ever. Love it.

    Alpage AL-300 HF loss

    excellent work! :D

AIWA AD-F880-MAX , my own heavily modified version of this deck.

Nice one about Sci-Fi :D Equal channels? Well, other than taking care of carefully match parts for equal tolerances between the channels (especially in the REC EQ filters and PB EQ amp) , it was a matter of painfully fine tuning while trying LOTS of different cassettes, finding the best...

    Alpage AL-300 HF loss

Glad to know that the posts happen to be useful in a way or another. That's actually the most important reason to post some information. :) PS: still need to complete my own thread about my own modified AIWA AD-F880 with amorphous heads, after I put together all the detailed data regarding the...

    Alpage AL-300 HF loss

I own two pre-1981 decks and, on both of them, i noticed that sort of "smiley face" playback response. on one of them (Technics RS-M63, with some Alps ferrite heads with not much different performance than the ones in the AL300 *), I've managed to realign it according to the post-1981 standards...

    Alpage AL-300 HF loss

is the AL300 a pre-1981 deck? if so, if you checked it with a post-1981 (Prague 1981) test tape, that bit of rising treble response and bass boost is how it's expected to be. well done! :D

Opinon wanted on what type of capacitor this might be

schematic isn't showing polarity, as usually mentioned on electrolytics. what actually they put in the device? I generally look at schematic and part list but then I check what was really used in the device and consider the actual correct information. Service manuals might show mistakes...

    what are you listening to?

the whole "Let It Be" album covered by Laibach comes to mind as well... and it's definitely a weird album, being by Laibach, with crazy music arrangements and that impossible to forget lead voice timbre! I'd say you have to give it a try. ;) https://www.discogs.com/it/master/13458-Laibach-Let-It-Be

    Maxell UR or Sony HF?

I am maybe a bit biased towards the HF? :p anyways, the ones below are the 1986-87 version which, IMHO, is the best HF ever (i think i tried just any version of HF) and one of the 3-4 very best basic ferrics regardless of the brand (which are all quite on par about performance)... also, I used...

    what are you listening to?

Nice to see you also are into 8 tracks. :) But, here in Italy, there are few opportunities to find any interesting/rock music on 8 track cartridges then my own collection is very slim.

    what are you listening to?

ah, nice. About Polyrock, I happen to own their vinyl LP "changing hearts". early OMD are nice too. agree that "new wave" can be a too generic way to call a genre of music... to me, new wave could anything from post punk to mid 80s rock. But it's true that there is a lot of pop which was...

    what are you listening to?

Happy you liked it. :) Is it true or, back in the 80s, the typical UK and EU new wave wasn't a lot popular there in USA or, if anything, it was less popular than here? (I mean, a bit like it happened, during the 70s, with progressive which was going very strong here and so so there). A good...

    what are you listening to?

yes, The Sound belong to that same scene as the other nice bands you mentioned. back in the 80s, there was a friend who used to record a few mixtapes for me who regularly added a few songs by The Sound, then I've started to know and like them back in the old days. And I do consider them being...

    what are you listening to?

right, also Stranger is remarkable but, yes, as you say those two albums are totally nice. also, i own a CD reissue of their first mini LP "subsequent pleasures" which includes, as a bonus, a few demos from CoX album songs. Sound quality isn't that great on my CD version but it's interesting to...

    what are you listening to?

NICE system and NICE music choice! Always loved Clan of Xymox... I own their first (self-titled) album and Medusa on vinyl and some more on CD. "A day" is maybe my favourite song by them. PS: not just the same kind of music but still nice 80s new wave, even if not based on electronic sounds...
