Ampex 623 open reel tape- any thoughts?

Nick, It's Ampex 632 tape that I also have which thus far appears to work just fine. There are 12, 10 inch reels all from the same lot number. I also forgot about 40 7 inch reels of two different Ampex acetate based tapes. Those looked Ok but have not given them a spin. Robert

Ampex 623 open reel tape- any thoughts?

Hi Nick, Nando does a great job on his recordings (also on photos), you will certainly enjoy....... As for Ampex tape; Never had much luck with any backcoated flavors but there are some non-coated reels around that are working fine. I'll find the number if I remember when I get home...

    Crown Drivecore

I hear mixed reviews of Crown amps these days, most either love them or hate them, very little middle ground..... How about QSC??? I see more positive than negative reviews. I have been looking for a power amp for my steel guitar and QSC keeps floating to the top of the list. Robert

Peavey 12" monitor model 1245-believe it WORKS-AS IS

Hi Steven, If the speaker basket is toast the Black Widow series speakers from Peavey have a field replaceable basket assembly available for most models. FWIW: The BW series of speakers was aimed for the market space originally held by JBL, EV, etc.... Most can handle a good amount of power...

    cleaning silver face gear

Hi, I tried some WD40 on the latest tape deck to find it's way home and it worked great! Never use the stuff on an mechanical linkage but as a surface cleaner it worked well. It also works well if you need to machine or drill aluminum. Robert

    Pioneer RT-1011L

Nando, That sounds like a nice receiver! It should fit well in your collection of Pioneer items. Ha, exchanging one toy for another, been there, done that! Lee, Thanks for the articles, I'll check them out. One never knows with vintage stuff what is under the cover until you dig into it...

    Pioneer RT-1011L

Hi Nando, Glad to know that you found some of the tape enjoyable. If things every slow a bit I will see if I can find something else you might like. As for the RTR's.... The 701 is still working well and is my favorite for playing 7 inch reels. I love the styling of that deck and the...

    Pioneer RT-1011L

Hi Guys, Thanks to a longtime friend yet another RTR followed me home this past weekend. This one has spent the past 30 years or so in a church and would bet it hasn't been used more than a dozen times. It needs some stickers removed but otherwise is in great shape. I fired it up and it...

    Dual 1019 TT

Hi, I don't see any reason idle wheel drive can't be made to work well. I guess why I was a bit surprised is that all of the cheapo TT's pretty much had idle wheel drives so it was guilt by association..... Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, must be a duck, right...

    Dual 1019 TT

Hi Nando, Thanks for the link..... I also found manuals for the TT so it looks like it could be restored without much effort. Interesting that an idle wheel drive TT gets some positive reviews, I always thought they were pretty much junk, go figure. Robert
