Not sure why you have such browser issues, my firefox updates every week and I never have any issues. Time to recycle a dozen of you machines and run some harware from the last 5 years and you shouldn't have any issues.

I have a bunch of machine running un activated windows 10, any version you like. As long as you can put up with the windows ins't activated watermark in the botton left hand corner of your desktop, everything else works and the trial period does not expire.

Obviously you computer is finding windows 7 either on the hard drive you are trying to install linux on or on the DVD you are booting from. Make sure the only hard drive hooked up to your system is the one you intend to install the linux on and make sure it has been formated, or better yet...

Are you trying to make a dual-boot computer? Win7/Linux? If not format the drive first then install the linux. The linux install disc is obviously picking up the win 7 from the hard drive . Make sure your priority in bios is to boot from thge cd drive also.

They lost me by not allowing the user to expand their memory or replace their battery on their own.

Temp did not drop much if at all here, but I did do some time lapse videos of the reduction in sunlight and looked at it with some glasses. Pretty cool. Cooler than a room full of antique computers running IE.
