As seen in the other thread I picked up a pair of Altec 604-8Ks. Decent and working but with cone damage on one of em. Was badly repaired with RTV silly-cone. I got some artist brushes, diluted Elmer's glue, and scotch tape and it seemed to work. That goofy spider dust cover under the horn is all effed up and unobtainium so that's why I'm not in a hurry to re-cone. Anyway I'm gonna stick em in open baffles this weekend to try them out.....

Fixes mostly work i think.....still got some VC rub in the "repaired" one. I may delete that dust cover spider. Anyways these show promise, the compression drivers on these are wayyy better than the 807s in those other cabs, tangerine FTW. Outstanding imaging, scary real vocals. And yes those open baffles are terrible.....20250926_204611.jpg

Now the million dollar question is do I build cabs for these (<7cu ft) or do I make more substantial open baffles? Either way I'm keeping these drivers. These existing "enclosures" are 1/2" ply and will eventually turn into bananas under the weight of these drivers. They have enormous ferrite magnets and weigh 30-40 lbs a piece.

I think I'm gonna move the 1202 cabs along, I'll keep the 416 woofers, the 811 horn lenses, the GPA diaphragms......
