This solder is easy to work with- fast on and off so most of the traces held up fine.

On the Aragon, which I have yet to tackle, they use tungsten solder or something because the board will catch fire before it melts…

On the preamp? Monitor of tape 1 or 2 (for playback). Turn that off if you want another source (CD, Tuna, LP...)

Other switch is for dubbing tape to tape. Pretty typical I thought, no?
I wouldn't say it's typical. They just as easily could have simply had a Tape 1 and Tape 2 button. I find the toggle for Tape inputs unique, sitting next to push buttons for everything else. The toggle for dubbing direction makes sense tho...

When I did my first preamp, I had a tape feed selector and an amp feed selector. Two rotary switches. You could feed LP to tape while listening to CD for example.

I think the intent is to eliminate the possibility of creating a feedback loop.

The feedback loop proposition makes sense.

I guess I'm just an 80's kid and it biased me , whereby most pre-amp or selector sections were a complete series of buttons or by dial.

It's been burning in all day- Zenyatta Mondatta on loop all day.

I checked the input to all inputs (including both tapes and "EPL" which I don't know what that is) but not Phono as the level will be too hot.

But I did gran a Gary Mulligan LP at lunch today at Savers, so I was going to rig up the floppy tone arm NAD player and see how that all works out... No time with end of week, end of quarter, end of half year (already!!!) today was a busy day.
