I'm very curious about any tech item
#1
I have a Pioneer DV 626 D dvd player and I think that the laser unit should be replaced .
The question is : after replacing the laser unit Is it necessary an adjustment ? ( mechanical or electric ? )
Service manual does not say anything : it's very generic .
Before spending 65 € I would like to have suggestions .
I would like to repair it for sentimental reasons .

Thank you
Marco

I THINK if you replace the laser only, as opposed to the entire transport assembly, you need both mechanical and electrical alignment.

Someone else will know for sure, but it seems reasonable with such narrow tracks on a DVD...

Many of the newer DVD players will "seek" to the initial track and align to that track and therefore all the tracks thereafter. The Focus is going to be the determining factor and this is measured in microns from the face of the Laser to the disc surface - good luck with that.

Is there auto focus function ? Probably yes , but I'm not sure .
In some YT videos they simply remove laser assy and replace it with a new one .
Considering that you can buy a Sony Blu Ray player for 100 € ,
probably it's not worth reparing it . It's a pity to throw it away !
Ciao

If the transport is actually metal with lubricated parts rather than plastic fantastic, I'd say it's worth saving.

Otherwise, you'll be throwing good money after bad.

It was very expansive , because 23 years ago was one of top models by Pioneer .
The sound is great due to a 96 khz 24 bit DAC .
Thank you for your answer.

I have no the guts to throw away it .
To throw or not to throw , that is the question .
Better : to click or not click on Amazon to buy a Chinese laser unit .
:):):)

It works !
I simply rotate a little screw on laser assy ( laser power ? )
There are two screws and I moved first the right one .
I was very very lucky ! Fifty fifty ! This was the last attempt .
Now the unit is under observation , but tested with many DVDs and CDs .

Happy Easter to all and ciao !
