    Update on my phono preamp:

The STM-72 has 35dB of gain. That means that the impedance of the cartridge (c. 2 ohms resistive) plus the interconnect wiring is increased at the SUT output by 70dB or by a bit over 3000. That means the source resistance that the Pyxi sees will be > 6kohms. At that level the input bias current...

    Update on my phono preamp:

The Pyxi has a gain of 65.5dB in MC mode. Some users are using it with 70uV sensitivity cartridges., but the A weighted S/N ratio would be in the low 70dBs and would be just barely better than the best LP surfaces, which is not ideal. The max output from LPs would be about 600mv RMS, which is...

    Update on my phono preamp:

No break in time required. There are no components that require aging. However, the "ear" adjusts to the sound as time goes by, and can better appreciate the improvements.

    Update on my phono preamp:

    Thanks!

    Update on my phono preamp:

Copy of Pyxi Operating Manaul (rev2).docx (sotaturntables.com) The caps make no difference for MC- except for the HF resonance, so it's best to have them as low as possible. If I were you I'd probably switch 1 and 2 on and call it a day, or perhaps 2 only. I can't find a set of specs for all of...

    Update on my phono preamp:

The Pyxi is designed to have a peak output of 4dBv for a 250uv (MC) or 2.5mv (MM) input +12dB, which is a typical recording maximum, and +6dBv for +14dB which, in my experience is the max I've ever had from an LP, resulting in 6dBv out. 6dBv is the usual line input level.

    Update on my phono preamp:

I did a comparison with a DM10 at a friends in Atlanta, using the V2.0 of the WP phono, and I could not hear a significant difference, but the DM10 owner preferred the WP phono. The Pyxi is based on the v2.0 design.

    Update on my phono preamp:

    The Pyxi is c. 65dB.

    Update on my phono preamp:

The cap is in pF. Realy only important for MM cartridges. The RES is ohms.

    Update on my phono preamp:

Oh, and by the way, I have a "five figure" turntable setup.

    Update on my phono preamp:

All you get is what is there on the album. No more. No less. It's a window into the recording. Seriously, it has specs as good as the Halcro preamps at 1% of the price...

    Update on my phono preamp:

I'd be very interested in your observations as that was essentially the reason that I got involved in this "development" in the first place. Hopefully you like what you hear. However, like all designs there are trade offs and imperfections, and understanding what users experience is invaluable...

    Hi y'all

Yes, J!m has done a remarkable job in all respects. It's been interesting to see how enthusiastic a number of builders are, despite the relative complexity of the task.

    Hi y'all

That's why I now live in NC. I was with Analog Devices for many years, based in Wilmington.
