I still live near there. Can't remember the name of the head shop, but I do remember visiting it. Wish I could have seen that concert, although the ones I saw in the UNI dome disappointed me with the acoustics. I'm sure the Dead had plenty of power to help overcome some of that.

I actually prefer Dominican. The Cubans I've had were very inconsistent burn and not any better in flavor. Totally agree with the shade grown wrapper.

Joe, Over on AK member automojo has done extensive work on recreating and attempting to improve the Rock Monitors. There are a couple others that are also toying with them. As good as they are it's a shame that ESS didn't do better as a major player. Poor management I guess. The patent is off...

They are. Best I've ever had. In the earlier post I meant to say I also have AMT 4's, smaller two way similar to the 3's but only one 10" bass driver and a smaller AMT. Also very good. I do love the ESS AMT line.

Sure Joe, I do have those as well, out in the back yard, but they don't sound any better than they look. Gonna have to remedy that.

I was fortunate enough to find mine just two hours' drive away. I have AMT 1B's, AMT 4's and a few of the Tempest series as well. All great sounding, but the Rock Monitors rule! I won't be parting with mine.

As seen in my avatar pic, I have a pair of C1s and WOPL 400s. Front speakers are ESS Rock Monitors, rear are Infinity RSB 1.5 with the Watkin's woofers. The voicing matches very well between these two pairs. Speakers are all away from the wall and first reflections behind the ESS's are treated...

YES! Their 'Brother Where You Bound' album is one that I consider a reference for a near perfect recording and mastering.
