I hope for the same ;) The hairspin wasn't moving and now it is (after applying the D100 liquid and cleaning with the D5 spray), i think that's a good sign (or at least a better one than when it was stuck) No compressed air was used, just the spray from the Deoxit 5 applied from a couple of...

Well... after a lot of mechanical "disintegration" work, the chassis is clean and with no sign of water / rust (i have to say: kudos Phase Linear for the good paint!) I preserved the green "Linda" sticker as a sign of respect for the worker who assembled this unit so many years ago. I have...

thk Joe, like Lee Sklar's famous "useless" switch on his bass guitar... he was fooling most engineers by flipping the switch and asking "how does it sound now?"

thanks so much! Do you think this is something to be kept? I mean... if the Aerosmith techs removed it ;)

thank you, it might as well be the case as the information I had from @berndt is that this was one of the Aerosmith PA PL700s donated by @laatsch55

Good morning all, I was taking a good look at the transformer "donor" amp S/N 5832 and the "receiving" one S/N1273/0888 amnd have a couple of questions if I may (and many more to come, my apologies in advance :) ) 1.- DATE: i believe the receiving amp was manufactured in 12 1973 and the donor...

Pl400 full white oak build, power cable replacement

Thank you for the reply @WOPL Sniffer This is a conversation @berndt and I had when working on a PL400 together and after doing some investigation, the usal recommendation was in line with yours Could I ask if this comes after any known issues with adding a grounded cable to PLs? Thank you in...

Quick update on the donor transformer testing. I've got B+ 100V B- 100V (the original power caps that i measured to be at 9,000 -10,000 uF) and 5.3 VAC I think the prospect of a "transplant" looks promising :) Next step is to finish bringing back to life the rusty VU meter (Deoxit 100 should...

Hahahahaah... I agree, Joe! :) Thanks for all the help with the PL400 over the past few weeks. I measured it at Peter’s (Quirk Audio), and the THD came in at 0.07%. The plan is to keep this PL700B. Once I’ve confirmed everything else is working properly, I’ll be ordering all the WO upgrades :)

thank you all for the replies and guidance! i'll try to measure the output voltages on the donor transformer in a few days and report back and that's why i have not attempted to measure output voltages on the original transformer :) i have used Deoxit D5 so far and the needle started moving...
