    Phase Linear 4000 Series 2

That's actually a well thought out response. Thanks. Customers see green caps in place of formerly black caps, are told the MUSE brand, and they check off the box. Doesn't matter that they won't last as long as a 2,000 hour cap. They don't want to hear it. So why change anything? People in...

    Phase Linear 4000 Series 2

Why so touchy? I'm just pointing out people are overpaying for shorter endurance caps. Regular bipolars sound the same.

    Phase Linear 4000 Series 2

Nichicon has not provided any specs or test data to substantiate what makes MUSE caps sound better. Polar caps have more distortion that bipolar even with DC bias, so why are there polar MUSE caps? That tells me Nichicon does not measure harmonic distortion under load. Also MUSE caps have...

    Looking to upgrade to horns

$2,300. Then crossovers and cabinets. Maybe another $1200. There's the time to build cabinets. It may be less expensive to build new than transport across country. Speakerlab was a Pacific NW company. He'll have to desire something closer to home.

Bipolar caps have lower distortion. What makes MUSE caps better?

    Looking to upgrade to horns

Mine were from 1977 or earlier. Before cost reduction. I wouldn't buy crossovers for speakers I didn't own. A pair may come along with crossovers. Work something out with this guy. This is the best you are going to find. These are the good drivers...

    Looking to upgrade to horns

Speakerlab was a Seattle company. Ks will be on the west coast. I have a pair I bought when I was 19. Mine have the HD350B and HT3500 drivers and horns. I have the 8 ohm 15" woofers. Later versions swapped in low quality mids and highs. You might consider buying a very ugly pair from...

    Phase Linear 4000 Series 2

I think MUSE caps are for those who don't like to read data sheets. They only have 1000 hours endurance at 85C. I don't believe they are designed for low distortion either. If they were, there would be specs in the datasheet. Even with a DC bias, bipolar caps have lower harmonic distortion...

    C-1 or PL2000

The Phase Linear 4000 preamp is outstanding for vinyl. The correlator and peak unlimiter both work very well after a few resistor changes in the summing amp. The original flowed connector solder joints once resoldered are reliable. Pots are full sized too. Many have solid aluminum knobs.
