I trust your ears, Miles. Too many people have been lulled by factory performance specs only to find in the real world those specs don't translate to a superlative recording or playback performance. Save your hard-earned money and prove the sceptics wrong. That's my philosophy.

Nando.
That's exactly the reason why I've got 3 of those Sony decks. I like the decks without nonsense features like "CD Direct".....
It's prooven that the Sony's simply do what they must do: recording a good tape.

I'm still pretty amazed by the tape transport of my Akai GX-52; this direct drive mechanism runs VERY stable and VERY silent. The motorized tape loading is also a rare (but nice) feature for a two header like this.
As said before: I really love the looks of it and it's heavy build quality.....

Indeed: DON'T CRUSH... PRESS > ....

Ssssh, Miles. Rule #1: If you plan to sell a component at a later date don't reveal how inexpensively you bought it in the first place. But, you aren't planning to sell it, so disregard this rule.

Thank you Daren!

There were some good old Gerry (Brother Booze) Rafferty tunes spinning on this tape while taking the snapshot of the deck in action.

Not bad at all.

Miles: It appears the Akai will have a more permanent home in your system, now that you've toasted the newcomer to the rack.
