Listening to my mix tapes out of my Phoenix Audio Forums Xmas haul. Finished up Catch a Wave and a little over half way through Like a Box of Chocolates. Both tapes are extremely well-recorded. I've never seen or hear an Esoteric tape deck but it is obviously a fine machine. Also, type I tapes recorded this well continue to make me wonder why I mess with other types. There are a few tracks where I can't see how much better another tape formulation could really make things.

Now, I'm gonna hafta try to figure out who all is on these tapes. The track lists tell me what songs, and about half or a bit more are bands I know/recognize but a lot of them I don't. Enjoying the track Upland right now, fr example, but no idea who it is. May have to try Shazam on 'em and see if I can figure 'em all out. But yeah, great recordings, fun music. Thanks a ton.

Thanks for your comments, Dave. I will take a look to see if I have the track list sheets available with all the details you need. I didn't mail them out with the tapes as I wanted you to be surprised. I can PM you once I have them and e-mail them to you as documents. The song "Upland" is from the solo debut album "Aqua" by Edgar Froese. You'll have to forgive some of the surface noise from the vinyl.

I was equally impressed with the TDK D-90s you used in recording both your mix tapes for me. The Dolby B is a good match on playback on all three of my decks. What I really loved was the superior stereo separation on your recordings and the sound stage imparted by many of your songs. It can be a challenge to record on Type I cassettes, but there are now a number of members I have exchanged mix tapes with, including yourself, who have mastered it well.

The "Awesome 80's New Wave Classics" sure did remind me of many of those great tunes I grew up with back then.

Doug Sahm And Band

SLF......is that what you would call a funky album??
I sure as hell would.
Yep, with Dr. John and those other folks it's gonna be funky. Sounds a lot like Sahm's earlier records with all kinds of influences. Worth a listen, there's a good write up at Allmusic.com.

Listened to rock 101 in southern NH on the ride home tonight. Rush - Tom Sawyer, Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, followed by - another one bites the dust. Forgot I was tired for a few minutes.

Peace!

Right on, Joe. We have our own Rock 101 in Vancouver playing classic rock of the 60's, 70's & 80's. I have it playing most times on the FM while driving.

KISS The Originals

Picked up a set of KISS The originals at a thrift store yesterday ($4). The cover looks like a dog's chew toy
but surprise the lp's are all near mint.
