And until you've been exposed to a decent tunebox, you don't really know what you are missing??

So question then... if it's so taboo to be driving speakers in series (which when you get down to it and think about it, yep.. I wouldn't either...), then why do we see soooooo many lofi and midfi receivers and integrated amps out there that do it when you select more than one pair? Even my M80 - it has connections for three pairs in the back. If you do A+B, A+C, or B+C, it'll drive in parallel... BUT.. if you decide to do A+B+C, then A drives in parallel with B/C in series (figure THAT one out... ).

I guess the answer is you might have a pair in the living room, another one deckside outdoors, etc... but nobody ever mentions that when you have two pairs stacked on each other, that you should consider how the amp is wired up to handle multiple pairs.

that could pretty well explain part of it. very helpful when there is little to no interaction between speakers, but I'm more of the impression that it's a "feature" to just sell more product.
but by the same token, there have been many Pro Sound Systems that have utilised series/parallel with no ill effect.
as an example, we have the JBL 4682 Line Array. 4x 10" drivers with a pair of JBL 2402 Rings, and to this day, one of my most favoured vocal foldback setup, (or even front of house for a very small place!)
and as an afterthought, thinking back on the Marshall Quad Box, when 'mic'ing' up, generally we (sound guys) usually get the guitarist to play a couple of bits, and then we 'mice' up the best of the 4 speakers, but it can take a bit to figure out which, as in real life usage, they all pretty well sound identical.....
go figure.
BUT as far as home use, it is un-necessary, and I generally avoid it.

Jazz has a severe flinch when I crank it and she's already in the room. If she's not, she doesn't come downstairs...

these two are a dead ringer for my two.....

.... they are my reason for living.
Such great companions. I went hungry to pay the vet bill for my Monnie. I think she had me trained to give her pats in my sleep, would always sleep next to my pillow or sneak under the covers when it was cold, perfected the nudge to get under that doona, made a good ball of warmth.

Perhaps there are more mid and lofi ears than we realised.....
You are kidding right Lee?

Current hi-fi is considered your $3 Apple earbuds in your ears listening to crappy MP3 rips on your iPod. Long gone is the sense of what well recorded and reproduced analog sound is. That tipping point tipped over long ago in the USA, now we are working on a new tipping point (but somehow I sense they are related).

I think it's exposure, or non-exposure I should say.Maybe kids don't take time to go to their buds house and chill and listen to music. When there are no stores to personally visit and sample various components, discovering quality is perhaps more by accident.....

Think of it this way...
As a caricature is to photographs, then so an mp3 through buds be to an LP through a fine system.
The two are nothing alike in quality, but the resemblance or entertainment value is in the 'sketched' identifiable 'hook' or tune.
That seems to be all that matters to 'em.
Whatever makes you happy I s'pose. They'll never know. Thank God WE do.....

Joe, don't know. Had the tunebox on when the paperboy came by the other day. Got the radio on eh? he says, and with an evil grin I invited him in. His mouth hit the floor when he rounded the corner, and was almost speechless when he left. I still think a lot of it is exposure. When you hear a really good system playing excellently engineered source material, a whole new world opens up. I'm doing my part, every youngin that crosses my path we have a sit down in the mancave....
