My pointer keeps flying around, blinks out, then pops up to the upper left corner. I turned down the mouse speed, disabled the touch pad, ran a scan on the drive...... Still acting stupid. Once I click in the box to type, I don't have any problem but when trying to navigate around a site, the pointer freaks the hell out. After the 3 above actions, it is a little better but still funky.

I even stole the wife's mouse to troubleshoot, and switched between all 3 USB ports. I wonder if the laptop didn't like doing a bellyflop onto the floor the other day. Usually we recover after a few days of getting your wig split but apparently the computer doesn't.

Hmmmm… better get the hammer then.

I had my AlienWare for 10 years or more and it was in and out of the sandbox (Iraq/Kuwait/Afghanistan) all the time and I never had a lick of problems with it. I sold it for $400 after all that time. This ASUS laptop sux but you get what you pay for. I bought the Alienware for $2600 in 2004, this one was $300............. Fuckin Chinee shit.

The trackpoint on my T480 does that occasionally, but it completely freaks out and closes Firefox. I do have an uptime of several months though…..

Cheap laptops usually suck. Get something business class like a thinkpad or gaming oriented like an eluktronics laptop. My kid brother got an eluktronics laptop and it’s pretty awesome but the Linux compatibility sucks. I’m not using microshaft wangblows on any of my home computers unless I have a damn good reason.

The pre-lenovo ones were friggin' awesome. One employer years ago wanted to "upgrade" me to a new HP laptop but I refused as long as I possibly could with my IBM...

Panasonic toughbooks are good laptops too. I have one for BMW software that has zero issues (other than running Win 7)

I like the Lenovo think pad I bought for the fluid level gun. Fast, easy on batteries, fairly tough as it rides in the field everyday. Keep all my technical and repair and troubleshooting manuals on it too. Some of those drives we have can get pretty involved...

I disabled the touchscreen and the touchpad and now my mouse has settled down. We'll see if it lasts. I don't use either feature anyway.

sometimes i've experienced some weird behaviour of the mouse pointer (jumping here and there) and it seemed it was because it didn't like the kind/colour of the mat i was using.

for example, I have a couple good/old Logitech which just don't work on a green mat I have here.
another mouse, still a good/old Logitech, didn't like a certain blue mat (but it works OK on another kind of blue mat).

if anything, try also some other mat.

Tried several, along with different mice in all 3 usb ports. It's working now after the touchpad and touchscreen disable. I googled that shit.
