That last 700b that I WOPL'd had a ridiculous amount of thermal paste on the TO's.
It was all original, and they troweled it on! My least favorite job on a rebuild, cleaning
all that from the cooling fins, chassis, and everywhere else it gets into.

Is it a good idea to insulate the transformer bolts on a 400? Why insulate the transformer bolts?

Three ways to do it. McDonald's plastic straw, or thin clear packing tape( Don Watts Abundant idea), or get smaller diameter bolts and use heat shrink(I have a thread about this).

Glen said the early Dual 500s used a straw, later ones used stepped washers. The 700 Pro I WOPLed also had the stepped washers.

An extra benefit of rolling the packing tape on the bolts with your thumbs and index fingers is it may take you back to activities you did in the 70's.

PROTIP: alcohol removes thermal grease, Zep removes anodizing…….
