What are some good sounding common ground high current amps that will put out around 400wpc into 4ohms? I am looking at Parasound and Hafler amps. I want to stay between $500-1000 I know carver has a few but i am interested in the ones I have mentioned. Also I only want to use one amp for 2 channel music listening only! No mono blocks and no bi amping.

Man, you have threads everywhere asking the same question. I really hope you find what your looking for. My advice? Just buy one of the amps you want and see if it does it for you

Welcome to Phoenix, I am sure you will get a few recommendations

I might help to know where you live, CL has some great buys near the bigger cities, the amp you seek will be big and heavy, save on shipping and you get to hear it work before you part with your money, just a thought.

Welcome to PHX :glasses1:

One of our esteemed members just picked up a monster SAE for $1,700, there are smaller ones out there for less, look for some Adcom and Parasound's in your area or your fav online bidding site.

I've seen some nice, older Sony, Onkyo and Technics amps that fit your bill in the last year on ebay, shipping might push your budget a bit though.

Save A few more dollars and move to a WOPL and forget those other amps. Its all you'll ever need.

Goodsounding
high current/400wpc@4Ω
500-1000

Nothing. Pick two of the above to narrow it down to something that will available. At the price you are a bit low for all three performance marks.

High current??? We use our WOPL's for welding when not jamming.....

You just may have to raise your budget to get a GOOD amp. Cheap junk is around for that price. At that price point, you may get a good OLD amp which may need some updating.

We weren't even done.

seems he needs to have someone suggest the amp he has in mind. There are so many big amps with common ground that it would be easier to list the ones without.

Since no one mentioned the one he has/wants, he had to move on to the next board to find one that agreed with his twisted ideas. Did he have no clue that this is a WOPL infused board?

WOPL infused or not , his parameters were mutually exclusive in a couple areas , as you pointed out....

Out of curiosity Lee, what would have you suggested short of a WOPL. I thought the Carver M1.5T would have been a good matchup though I am not sure it's a common ground amp. I always assumed a common ground amp would pretty be any stereo amp without a 3 prong cord. Would that be correct? EDIT: Or is it dual mono construction?

Signal ground eventually being grounded with mains ground is what I've been told. The 500-1000 number is why I didn't even comment on his post. As Perry said, yeah ya could probably find an old, UNRESTORED amp at that price, but sound good? Crapshoot. High current , 400 into 4, not unreachable goals, but high current at 4 ohms is a given, taks a pretty good amp to live doing that. So, let him buy an unrestored Parasound or Hafler, he still only fulfilled 2 of his 3 parameters, still missing the "sound good" part. Notice Joe didn't answer either? He doesn't have time for that kinda bullshit........
