Is there a DC protect board in there?? Did he check the 5 amp rail fuses?

My wopl sits at a little over 3/4 max volume and stays there all the tine (during power on/power off). It shouldn't bother it unless the pre is cranked also. I just turn the pre volume down. during power on/off.

Without a pre hooked up and no grounding plugs, and no DC protect, you can get a big transient...not as big as a stock board, (not one at all if the inputs are grounded) I'm thinkin maybe the guy was unplugging the pre with the amp on. I did that once.....ya never forget THAT noise....

Hi guys,

Of course, the first thing that I asked him, it's to check rail fuses.
All are good.

He turned off the 700b with volume max and min. volume on his preamp and no unpluging during that action.

Nothing to do on his side, just to bring to me... :-/

I asked you, just if you know something fragile on PL14upgrade PCB with a big transcient...

Thanks,

And I asked you just if you had a DC protect board. What version of the board, D, E??

That's scary doing the WO control board and not getting the DC protect board while you were at it. It's only around a $100 extra. These amps definitely need it

When I shut down, I turn the amp off first always after the preamp volume is turned down, on start up the amp gets turned on last. Never had a problem doing it that way, seems the safest way to avoid any potential spike problems

He'll pay for not doing the full upgrade. This is the reason I don't do partials. You can't expect a 40 year old transistor to play hardball with a brand new one. It's crazy. Kids, save your money and do the "Full Monty" upgrade. If you do a small piece, YOU WILL LOSE.

Just my opinion, do what you will. Don't say I didn't warn you. The original backplanes are crap. Spend the money and get new ones from Joe along with ANYTHING ELSE AVAILABLE.

Remember, Amp gets turned ON LAST, and OFF first.... I never have issues when using this method. The volume on the amp can stay where it is. Try it, you'll like it. Just like Mikey

Yeah, I will repair the driver board first and theoriginal PL14 next.
Anybody makes a modification on 14 to remove the "ploc" after turn off ?
But before, a cal. 45 head shot to my friend ;-)
I'm joking of course...

Nope, that's why you need to run a DC protect board in ANY stock amp....

I can never condone shooting somebody for blowing up an amplifier, although is it is a Phase Linear. Maybe just a warning shot across the bow....... Don't loan your equipment out to rookies boys and girls. Unless it's a bulletproof FULL BLOWN WOPL... Do ALL the MODS and keep it within sight. Don't risk a good pair of speakers. It's inevitable, without the full set of mods, it's a ticking time bomb.....

Mmmmm, BEEEEEEEERRRRRRR
