Merry Christmas to everyone!

I am new to this forum but long time audiokarma member. I was pointed in this direction as a place to possibly get some help with my amp. I have a Phase Linear 400 series one. Where do I post questions related to repair and I am intrigued by all the WOPL stuff!!!

I'll be posting more later, but gotta run right now.

Cheers,
Jim

Welcome to Phoenix Jim. You came to the right place for help. If you can read through our transgressions you will find a wealth of knowledge.

I'm sure you will be hearing from some of the crew soon.

Maybe Nav will give you a special welcome!

Merry Christmas.

Jim, Welcome to Phoenix. Start a fix-it thread in the amp section and we'll see what we can do...

Thanks, I'm planning on doing that after Christmas. My 400 is a beater.... Got it about 6 years ago from someone that picked it up at an auction. Non functional and missing little things, like the shields that cover the outputs and one of the gizmos that hold down the power meters. I actually did the White Oak led board and cap board about 3 years ago if I recall correctly, also replaced all the driver pre-driver and outputs about the same time. I got them from someone on Ebay that was selling beta matched sets...

More to come! Sounds like I have found a home, I have loved Phase Linear stuff since I was in the Air Force back in 74-77

My main listening equipment is Thorens TD160 with Grace F9(sound-smith Ruby) Carver C4000 Preamp and either Phase Linear 400 or Carver M1.5t and Magnepan 1.6qr's. Both Carver's were serviced by Rolland at Hi-Tech Audio though the amp is having an issue too...

Game plan is to get the 400 fixed first, maybe make it a WOPL?

Good to see you here Jim, the WOPL crew will get you fixed up!

Welcome Jim to our part of the world. You should have a bit of fun here. Is your amp a four or eight finned unit?

Here's a welcome Nav babe and I Hope you enjoy her. She's good with balls.

Welcome to our forum, Jim. That's a nice compliment of components in your system.

Nando.

Gotta love a baller.

Hey Jim, let me guess, a subdued buzzing on your M1.5T? I love those amps, major balls but they just seem un-serviceable for some things related to the mag coil

They really are that good....

That's what I hear in everything I have been reading. I have a lot to read and learn about them. I also need to get a better understanding about the two basic designs to decide which way to go...
My biggest issue will be the fact that I have champagne tastes on a beer budget, and the fact that though I was a Radar Repairman in the USAF, it has been 40 years since I really worked in the field and I have no test equipment besides a DMM and DBT. I think I can manage the PL14_20 control board but the backplane kit is definitely beyond me...! :la: The full or quasi comp. that is the question! :confused1:
