Michele sent me a message, amp has been fine since she owned it but...

"Silvara isn't right suddenly. I've been using your amp for the last couple of weeks without issue. I came home Sunday turned on the stereo and put a CD in. I went and took my coat off and then a few minutes later- before the first song had even finished - when I returned to the living room there was a bad burning smell by the stereo. The heat sinks were burning up too. I shut everything off and switched out amps"

What could be the problem? Jer built her and I never had an issue with any amp he has ever built. Could something be loose inside? Hopefully she will pop on here to get some help

Joe, if you happen to read this, any thoughts on the problem? It was still running when she killed the power but what would cause the heatsinks to heat up like that in less then a songs time? Don's board did not kick in so no DC issue?

Did she check rail fuses? Sounds like a bias issue, but wouldn't guarantee it....

Could also be a problem in the low voltage section of the board...losing one side of the low voltage section causes a lot of heat...

Dr. Jbeckva, call ER STAT

She messaged me on AK that she would pop in here. She did not check fuses but said it was working when she killed the power so I am assuming the rail fuses ae still intact

You still have half a sine wave ir one rail fuse is gone..

Hopefully she will pop on today, I have no answers since the amp is not in front of me. She said both channels were outputting though

I'm here. Ugghh, life has been shitty and crazy lately.
I don't know what rail fuses are. Tell me please.

Hopefully someone will be on soon Michelle! You have two speaker fuses and one power fuse. I am not sure if the power fuse would be for the rail? Should be a 10amp 250V in there for power, speaker line fuses I believe are 8amp 250v

Could be anything at this juncture ... but yeah, let's do the basics first .. fuses.. inside n out.. does it get hot without speakers attached... whole ton of questions before we even begin to isolate it all.

did a cat pee in it? (sorry, couldn't resist... I'm "bad"... ) :blob8::toothy5::hello1:

What fuses are inside these Jer? I was not aware of any, just the 3 by the transformer

If it has backplanes there are small Pico fuses on the backplane boards.

Did a cat pee in it ???? ;-);-);-) Jerry !!!!! You aint right man !!! But that sure was funny !!!

This sounds like a job Michele can't help with much, nothing inside that someone who does not understand electronics should be messing with. Will someone look at this if she can get it to you? This has a lifetime builders guarantee and she is a Phoenix member. I will sell some records to come up with money for parts or whatever since she is in a bad spot

Yep, of course. Just get it to me in one piece and not the worse for wear... :hello1::toothy5:

I'm going to hook it up once more before sending it. Wish I had the cabbage case. Not looking forward to packing it.

Man, I would not turn it on, might blow up something wicked expensive

I really want to check before spending money I dont have on shipping. I'll use some junk speakers.
