Toss a coin. Does this belong in tape? Or music? Since it's about both. I don't know.

So a neighbor of mine is having a big 60th birthday bash coming up soon. And I've volunteered and been tasked with providing the soundtrack. I figure two full 10" tapes ought to provide ample play time for the event. I have finished Side One (of four). The theme is 60's and 70's Rock music. On a subsequent side, I may interject some disco into it because, well...never mind. I'm pretty sure that given the nature of the expected crowd, it will be a welcome addition.

So anyway, I figured this will be a chance to let the much maligned PYRAL LPR35 tape finally shine. As that's the one I chose for this project. It's the same roll I outlined not long ago and have now elected to put it to use. I already must say that as I had the monitor going during recording, I did hear some momentary, transitory brief spikes of distortion. Even though I was only recording at a sustained 0dB with peaks up to about 3. It may have just been my overactive imagination, but overall didn't sound too bad. I'm just hoping I'm not going to second guess myself and have to recreate this tape. Especially since I nailed it down right to the nub.

And here's the lineup.

1. Eric Clapton ~"Cocaine"
2. ELO ~"Do Ya"
3. AC/DC ~"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
4. Tom Petty ~"You Got Lucky"
5. ZZ Top ~"LaGrange"
6. Journey ~"Don't Stop Believin"

8. Peter Frampton ~"Show Me The Way"
9. Rush ~"Limelight"
10. David Bowie ~"Changes"
11. Mountain ~"Mississippi Queen"
12. The Eagles ~"One Of These Nights"
13. Fleetwood Mac ~"Monday Morning"
14. Steve Miller ~"Rock-N-Me"
15. Don McLean ~"American Pie"

My brain is shutting down for the night. I started on Side 2, but only got about a third of the way through. I could just cobble something together but I want it to be a GOOD mix. I still have plenty of time.

This is Side 2, so far (part of which I admit 'borrowed' from one of my existing tapes):

1. The Hollies ~"Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress"
2. The Allman Bros ~"Rambling Man"
3. Chicago ~"Feeling Stronger Every Day"
4. Bob Dylan ~"Rainy Day Women"
5. The Chambers Bros ~"The Time Has Come Today"
6. Deep Purple ~"Smoke On The Water" (Live)
7. The Who ~"Pinball Wizard.
8....?????

Uriah Heep - "Lady in Black"

Nice playlist Matt - this is probably the first list I've seen posted here that I know all the songs!

I hear you knockin is a great tune.
It was one of those that took me years to nail down.

Because for some odd reason, I always thought that was a Joe Walsh tune :shaking:

I have quite a few candidate songs picked out. More than enough to fill the rest of this tape with. But as with any mix, it becomes a process of elimination because some otherwise great tunes just don't fit in with the vibe and mix I'm attempting to create. For others, it's just a matter of sequencing them in so that the flow is right.

A few of the former that were up for consideration but for now have been dropped include "Day After Day" by Badfinger, "Money" by Pink Floyd, and "Sister Golden Hair" by America. Some choices in the latter that remain in the running are "Sweet Hitchhiker" by CCR, "Blue Collar Man" by Styx, and "Do You Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart.

I also did not put the entire eight or so minutes of "Time Has Come". That long instrumental passage gets a little too weird as it goes on, even for my tastes. I just put the first few verses of 'normal' song on then faded it out as it began the transition to the long instrumental. The song is actually structured to be edit friendly like that.

I don't think the band had "edit friendly" in mind for that song.......cool application though Matt...
