Pulled the B+,B- wires and the BR wires off the caps. Powered up fine through a naked BR. Then hooked the BR wires to the caps, powered up fine. Waiting on the caps to drain and will hook up the B+, B- wires and see what happens..

Those are 22Kuf/100 volt. I really should have put in a 50 amp. Factory issue was a 25 amp. It does look like a 400 except that it has 6 rows of outputs and small meters...

Hooked up the B+, B- wires and powers on fine. After a little digging we found this, check pic. That blue wire comes off the BR secondary to power the DC protect board. The meters are junk but I got some NIB Argonnes fro Ed that I can put in. Ed tells me that I have to put in a non-stock resistor value to make em work. But he's not available this weekend so I have a question in for Joe on how determine the resistor value..

That exposed copper would do a good job taking out the fuse. Good job finding the problem.

Are the early meters for the 700 considered junk or does Lyle have junky meters? :???:

Cool - glad to hear that the meters are ok. Mine seem to work fine.

On another note work sucks big time right now for me. I've pushed my concern up several levels - we'll see how this pans out. No matter the outcome I'll be able to post a bit more when things settle down.

The Argonnes were manufactured in Japan and Ed says they never broke...

They seem solid but my only experience with these meters is with the amp I bought from Audio Dave a year or three ago. He still has some good stuff that I've run into on the bay.

Just finished a 3 hour phone call with Ed. I was mistaken on the resistor needed to make these meters work. It takes the factory value. These Argonnes he says were the shit. VERY well built..

Do you have photos and/or a spec sheet? This could be an upgrade for those of us with an early PL amp. Cool stuff all the same.

They are the smaller meters Navo, early 700's and a few early 400's. I'll get a pic...

I have 3 styles, a Midland, and a later Argonne and an earlier Argonne. Gonna have to ask Ed about what he sent me. I only opened 2 of them and I sent those to Lyle to install after I got done with his amp. I don't have any more that match those two. I'm sure Ed has some more. But here's the pics of what I have left...

Now you know why I provide the shorty screws in my Backplane Kit Lee...exactly for that reason.
