ESS AMT 1C

I don't know anyone owning a pair of those ESS speakers. They look impressive. It seems you are going to adopt them, after all, Douglas.

Nando.

Nando , Ft. Dodge Chris owns some and loves em...

They are 70's vintage speakers?

Big fan of OB/ omni directional speakers after being exposed to them a few years ago. These have the right sound for my ears and the WAF is more than acceptable. The better half actually says that they don't look "half- bad". They would look even better if I could find the right material to recover them. Looks like the family cat used the tops as a napping area and is a bit tatty for my taste.

Still built today. Can't say that about too many of the old ones. Four ohm speakers, though.

Not many at all, Nando. I would think that the WOPL should be able to drive them at a mellow level without any problems. If not, my next project involves a few 4 ohm amps which I can always use to run them.

My $65 Yammie receiver was driving them yesterday and the amp never got warm. I'm a wimp when it comes to the high SPL's most of the time.:toothy5:

It sure gives you something to look forward to once you have the speakers connected to a big amp. If I find any old articles or ads on those ESS speakers, I will be sure to post them here.

4 ohms won't bother that WOPL at 300 WPC....

Thanks, Lee. I believe I may have asked you about these speakers and the WOPL before I had either in my hands.

Look forward to any info that you come by, Nando.

Pulled control board and stared really, really hard. Didn't see anything that stood out and will take your advice to run the vac around fer a bit tomorrow. I am sure you will get me through my woes.

Now you know why I still lament not being able to get those Tempest Classics...and I had found them because Lee was wanting some AMTs.

I did eventually get the Sony TC-K4A that was there as my favorite thrift store owners got that and then I did, I think for $10. Needs belts and such, but it's a pretty deck and nice match for some of my other Sony stuff.

Passives Refoamed

Radiator kit showed up today and I am waiting for the adhesive to dry before re- installing them. On the left are the cleaned radiator frames, in the middle are the new radiators and on the right are what's left of the old radiators. Found 'em in the bottom of the cabinets while I was poking around.

...and here are the near- finished pieces. I keep working around the edge of the frames and getting all the little dimple smhoooooved out:

Now I need to repair/ replace woofer #1:

Soon.............

Do you know what year the 1Cs were manufactured? Do you think they will need a recap? I have the 1As and they were awful sounding duds until I put new caps in them.

Also, are those woofers surrounds foam or rubber? It's hard to tell from the picture.
